I never understood firing a coach unless you know you got someone better lined up. And outside of Urban, nobodyās a lock to win big.

Major understatement that they are nuts. It is fun reading their crazy, arrogant, and very angry perspectives on their boards. They do eat their own quite a bit also. Many really do hate Herman and there is a lot of anger with it with lots of anger his way. The web talk shows are even amazed at how the sharks are circling around him with a vengeance. It has to be miserable to be Herman, and his family, and the coaching staff. I guess they just need to keep telling themselves that the Whorns owe them $18M on his contract after this year.
Herman is giving off that beat down look. Trying to keep things together, but he has that deer in the headlights look all the Ags and Whorns coaches give off after they have been through the grinder in their cultures and are about to get fired. Very different from that persona he had a UH. He claims at one of his recent press conferences that he and his players knew what it was all about at Texas when he took the job and the players committed to the place. I believe he knew being a former employee and being mentored by Mack Brown all those years. But he probably didnāt believe he would be one of their coaches that takes a beat down for several years before being fired.

I donāt think any coach goes into a job thinking thatā¦ If they do believe that they arenāt really head coaching material. They might be free financially savvy realists but not head coaching material.

Iām pretty sure LTH thought he would go to UT and become the winningest coach in history of college football because his ego has no bounds. The only thing that his mind could think that would be different than that is if he thought he would win so much so soon, he would be hired by an NFL team where he would be the best coach ever, eclipsing the records of guys like Belichick, Lombardi, etc.

I have no idea what the financial health of the UT athletics program is given Covid, discontent with Herman, and having to pay him a buttload of moneyā¦
But I wonder if UT would reconsider the Herman buyout in lieu of playing us in football.

Not true. Lots of people joked about itāmocked it. It was pure pandering, and some saw that.
Edit to Add: Of course, lots of us didnāt know anything about until the game where they actually showed him doing it. After he was finished, he was asked if he was leaving and it was pretty obvious that he was lying.
So the real focus of most conversations at that time was the appearance of Hermanās pending resignation. The focus was on his leaving.

This is absolutely correct. Even though they probably could afford to can Herman and hire the ghost or Red Grange, the optics during the pandemic with athletic departments cutting people and entire sports would be hard to explain. The PC climate in Austin could not stand for an expense like this. They are stuck with Herman. And I laugh until I wet my pants.

Funny, but why would any non whorn want them to get loose from that albatross hung around the whorn neck? I would like them to give him a vote of confidence and another extension so he can continue ruining their program for years. Heck, with any luck, they can beat out Kansas for the cellar.
