Definitely. The only way a conference dies is if it has no one to backfill with. The Pac-12 has a full conference.

It’s not inconceivable the MWC collapses if they lose enough and can’t backfill. Unlikely, I think, but less unlikely than the PAC dissolving.

@uhlaw97 In the BCS era I believe the SWC would have survived. Most likely instead of Rice-SMU-TCU going to the WAC, the WAC teams would have gone under the SWC umbrella.

The WAC still exists! But they don’t sponsor football because there were literally not enough teams to restock with. That’s pretty much the only way it happens, and as Prowl says Conference USA shows just how unlikely it is to get to that point. Even the MWC will likely have NM State, UTEP, and up to seven schools from the NDSU to Eastern Washington that might be interested.
