Grade the Units

OL C-
WR C
QB C
RB B+
TE A

DL B+
LB A
DB A

P A
pK A+

Offense did not really have any big plays except on broken one.
Lots of penalties on OL pre snap and otherwise.
Lots of defenders in our backfield on sweeps.
Not a lot of imagination in playcalling.
Only went deep once or twice.

D was great. Should have had three more interceptions.
Pass rush was mediocre, but forced a lot of bad throws.

I would change QB to B…

Hard to give any defensive unit less than an A since they pitched a shutout.

I thought second two TD passes were big plays

I’d say we have a good qb now and Conner is a good rb .

I noticed several throws by our qb that last yr with our qbs , there was no way .

Our qb is good.

The big wr or tightend that got hurt then walked ok is amazing. He’s great.

I’m concerned about our wrs in general

The line did ok

Defense great bc it’s tough to shut out any team these days

Our qb has an it factor which we lacked a few yrs

I’d give QB a B+, he’s good the problem is the OL against SFA was a C- and the WRs were a C. As the season goes on he’s going to take shots waiting for guys to get open or running for his life if there’s not improvement from those two units. And I don’t know how Chriss beat our Carlise for the #2, he still can’t hit the broad side of a barn

I think he’s number 3 just to save face politically for chris, my guess. But Austin is our next case , fast etc. However, our qb now is good. Put him at Ohio st and you’d see. It’s like you said our oline isn’t great and the wrs other than the big guy catching stuff wasn’t great bc the others aren’t getting separation.

The gb threw one or more tight throws with no space that wouldn’t be possible with last yrs qbs.

Most happy about the PK and P.
The kicking game in football has evolved to a point where even the college kickers are now expected to not miss extra points and we shouldn’t have to hold our breath for FGs. under 40 yards
Unfortunately we have lagged behind in the kicking game in the past. Hopefully this is the yr we catch up.

In fact… I just watched the 4th&1 at the end of the 2nd…

We actually had the push to get the first down with a sneak… but since we rushed it from the shotgun they had time to fill the gap with the 5 guts they had on the line and 2 LBs right behind the line almost every snap…

They didn’t have respect for our WRs… man coverage all game…

I would say the last TD was a dart. The previous one was a swing pass and great run.
It might be that my expectations were throwing it down the field more against SFA as they were crowding the LOS.

Weigman started off throwing high. Glad it was out wide open 6’9” TE on the first TD pass. He had to go up and get it while turning.

That said he did settle down and made some very nice throws. The last TD was a dart. And he stayed in the pocket and made things happen. Plus a few nice runs when they were there. Maybe I did rate him a little low.

to the defense:

Sure they are FCS and I am not saying this was a great win or that this is a national championship defense but playing this well against a team that has this many snaps together and college level snaps is not too shabby.

Just noticed that SFA’s Defensive Coordinator is very, very familiar with Slade and Willie.

MIKE MUTZ
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR • THIRD SEASON

Prior to SFA, Mutz spent seven seasons (2016-2022) with the Tulane Green Wave and established one of the top linebacker units in the Nation

The 2022 Season is considered the greatest season in Tulane history. It’s the largest turnaround in FBS history – going from 2-10 to 12-2. The
Green Wave finished the year ranked #9 in the country and captured the American Athletic Conference Championship and also won the Cotton
Bowl in dramatic fashion coming back from a 15-point deficit in the final four minutes against perennial power Southern California. Linebacker
Dorian Williams was named the Defensive MVP of the game while Linebacker Nick Anderson was the MVP of the American Athletic Conference
Championship Game. The duo combined for 244 tackles, 15 TFLS, 7 sacks, 2 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles. Williams became a third-round
pick of the Buffalo Bills in this year’s draft while Anderson signed with the New Orleans Saints.
Under his leadership in 2021, his linebacker crew proved to be the core of the Green Wave defense with three of the five leading tacklers coming from his group. In 2020 the Linebackers combined for 306 tackles, 40.5 TFL’s, 9 Sacks and helped the Green Wave reach a bowl game for a
record third straight season.

OL I would give a D. SFA(!) had the push all night. I like cwf but the number one thing I don’t like about the hire is coach Nagavi got a reset while overseeing the worst unit in this program year in and year out and it’s not close.

QB - A

I would agree except his accuracy was clearly off early… and he threw one ball right into a LB and another bubble screen to Boogie that could’ve been picked.

Other than that… great job!

I’d probably give the OL a D. SFA was way too active up front and stuffed the run more than I cared to see. It’s one game but much improvement needed. I was also impressed with the punter but saw him a little more than I’d like!

I’m still not a fan of shotgun when going for one yard. If you are under center, then the D has to account for the sneak or the dive play or a bootleg.

Something to consider, SFA transfers were no joke on defense, they had two really great athletes up front on D
