who cares that we are a better academic school than LSU and Alabama- hopefully all of here should be proud of that!
We just need to leverage that fact to increase our % of high ROI Traditional students and then leverage a higher % of high ROI Traditional Students for the hundreds of other things that go along with a more traditional campus.
This a marketing issue and there are solutions.
WHAT I’M SUGGESTING IS NOT NEW!
Believe it or not, but in the 90s Alabama struggled to get out of state students so they targeted a few states HARD…VERY HARD!
Paul Catalina, on 365, told his story of how hard Alabama came after him in the mid 90s. Alabama was DESPERATE compared to other schools.
He ended up going to FSU but he remembered Alabama’s effort.
This included a big push for traditional students from Texas & Florida & Georgia.
They knew their survival depended on it because the students they needed were NOT in Alabama.
Look at them today…they are one of the top dogs in a P2 environment.
80% of UH students are from the city of Houston. That’s an awesome statistic and a unique and commendable situation. You’d want to turn your back on the sons and daughters of Houston so that we have better football attendance?
no…i want to turn my back on Houston area commuter students because they SUCK at elevating our University.
There’s a reason the “convince” their children to attend other…more well rounded Universities.
The majority are TAKERS and GIVE nothing back in return …not just in sports attendance but in the 100 other items that other P4 schools are WAY ahead of us in.
Keep promoting mediocrity but I think we are better than that!
There are a lot of reasons why that is the case, and majority of it is because of economic reasons
Yes there are kids that attend LSU and Alabama that elevation the perception of those schools, but that’s only because a lot of those students would otherwise be able to afford to go to practically any other institution in the country
If I was in charge of student admissions, I would add these new admission questions on the UH application for screening and weeding out the future non-football fans.
Did you play high school football?
Do you play Madden, watch NFL, or college football?
Are you involved in fantasy football or wagering on football?
If you didn’t play football growing up, were you involved in football?
Do you know traditions such as homecoming, tailgating, or understand the game itself?
Did your parents take you to college football games?
If you answered Yes to at least 3 of the questions above, then we will go to the next step of reviewing your application.
