Graphic: College Football Blue Blood Tiers

All-time series: Texas leads, 63–51–5

Looks like the consensus all blue blood is Notre Dame, its on everyone’s list.

I would think OU’s 8 national championships over UT’s 4 would negate that but most Longhorns I speak to never mention it.

it’s all perception and opinion

Those examples are all rankings. Blue Blood is not about ranking but a classification. A better comparison would be P4 vs G5. It is not the number but how they are grouped. You can also move up or down, but that is very hard and takes decades (ie. Minnesota moving down and FSU on border of moving up).

I think of it as generational. Which teams might you have talked about as good when you were a child, then as an adult, then as a grandparent. The names that come up in all the generations prior to the current decade, tend to be the blue bloods. There are about 8-9 schools which fit into that category.

Current is always the hottest teams of that decade which often does include the blue bloods too as talked about. Texas gets talked about even when they are not winning 10 games for example.

If you look at the bottom of the graphic, it has a logo for College Football Trash Talk Nation. These may be the Blue Bloods of trash talk.

Ohio St is definitely in the top tier. I’d also drop Florida into the fringe blue bloods category.

Texas has fewer overall National Championships than Minnesota. UT and Minnesota are tied with LSU with four national championships in the AP Top 25 era (8th overall).

They’re definitely Top 5 in most entitled fans.
