Paul Gipson needs to be on the list.
Warren McVea???
Any UH RB poll without Paul Gipson and Warren McVeais ill informed and irrelevant.
Do some research before posting a poll, sheesh.
Antowain Smith and Dickie Post should be in the mix.
Also Donnie “Quick Draw” McGraw. Not because of statistics; I just like his nickname.
My favorites were “Quick Six” (Alridge) and Michael Hayes. Charles Sims wasn’t bad either.
Some of the older guys I never saw (Newhouse, Gipson, McVea, etc.) But I grew up in a family of Longhorns, as I’ve mentioned here before. And there was NOBODY in the SWC that they spoke about with downright fear like Chuck Weatherspoon.
Paul Gipson.
That i’ve seen… Antowain Smith. Was running behind a mediocre line.
Not sure I agree.
Ben Fricke and Marcus Spriggs were both NFL offensive linemen.
That said, I agree. Antowain Smith had an amazing 1996 season, and a great NFL career that including 1,000 yard seasons and super bowl rings!
But I think that most people would rank Robert Newhouse and Paul Gipson as tops.
Newhouse, Gipson and McVea in no particular order but Dickie Post may need to be included in that group
I’m old school having attended UH in the 1970s and following the program since 1966, but as herald as Warren McVea was coming out of high school, no way is he anywhere near being one of UH’s top backs.
In 3 seasons at UH, the most yards he rushed for in a season was 699 in 1967.
Exactly but Old Coogs demand that everybody who played 50-60 years ago has to be on every list for everything.
At least a few of us geezers know something about Cougar football.
Just the best in a best of poll.
Signing McVea was a huge get for UH, but he did not live up to the hype. He was more than productive but not a UH great.
Thanks to KFD for providing the rushing chart.
UH has a great history with running backs as well as quarterbacks and receivers.
The future is bright with WF at the helm and hopefully the next few years will provide more names in the alltime great running back discussion.
That chart has an error I can see.
The 2015 team finished #8, not #18.
Yeah, I messed up. 18 was the CFP rank
I am not going to vote on this list as long as you call it the Greatest RB in our history.
This list is pretty ridiculous.
Two RBs weren’t even the best on their team. Ketric may have the record but Antowaine Smith was the top in that backfield.
Beall was bumped to third team behind Hayes and Sims.
Farrow isn’t a top 6 back.
