Have at it

Its hard to say especially when you were not around to see some of these teams or realize the competition they played against. I was at UH in the late 90’s early 2000’s so the only ones I am picking from are the 2011 and 2015 teams.

The '69 bunch was salty.after losing their first two games coach Yeoman made a very wise move to install Gary Moon Mullins as the quarterback which certainly turned things around. The Coogs reeled off nine straight wins including a convincing 36-7 win over 10th ranked Auburn in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
I sincerely believe that team could have beaten anyone at the end of that year.
But I truly think our greatest team ever was the '79 bunch which finished 11-1 and ranked top five in both polls.
The only loss that year was at home against dreaded and hated rival Texas before a standing room only crowd at the Astrodome.
We were there and crushed as Texas quarterback Donnie Little slashed through our great defense. Another disturbing thing at the time was the amount of TU fans in the Dome.
We went to win the conference outright and beat a very good Nebraska team in the Cotton Bowl.
It hurts, but if we had beaten the Sips we would have had a more than legit chance to win the national title

All but the 2011 and 2015 teams were before I was born so can’t really comment on those. I have often wondered how a game between the 2011 team and the 2016 team would go. If both coaching staffs were motivated.

Gotta agree with @bigmccoog. 1976 was certainly the most memorable season, but 1979 was the best overall team.

Not listed but the 1990 team went 10-1, and deserves honorable mention. That was the last great year of the Run & Shoot and had David Klingler at QB.

Remember the great Coog team of 1973, which isn’t even in the poll lol
but that team only lost one game, on the road to Auburn by a 7-0 score
a game we certainly should have won. That team went on to crush a good Tulane team in the Bluebonnet Bowl. Tulane was coming off a huge win against LSU

There are 3 ‘greatest’ teams. The first one in 1946, the first SWC team in 1976, and the one that wins a national title.

1990 for me.

Thwarted by one bad night in Austin.

Win that one, become ranked #1 in the next poll (in the AP poll we were still eligble to be in per probation), finish undefeated and have partial claim to the natty (even if it was only for UH fans to believe in).

I love the late 70’s teams, 1969, 1990 and Keenum’s near miss.

But given it was all based on just votes in a poll then, it’s 1990 for me. Never been THAT close to having any claim to the natty.

It would have been interesting to see how the 1969 season would have turned out if Yeoman had chosen Moon Mullins as the starting quarterback to start the season.

Hindsight is 20-20.

Or how the next few seasons would have been with a healthy Moon!

I am voting 1979. This one is easy.

In 1979 the SWC was the best conference on the planet top to bottom and there wasn’t a close second.

I know this is not popular with the young guys but we have had 10 or more teams over the years that would have handily whipped the 2015 edition

Greatest - Tie 73-79

Honorable mention 69, 76, 11, 15

Most fun to watch - 90

Most important in the grand scheme of things - 2025

If “most fun to watch” is a category, I’d pick 1989 (defense also) and 1990.

1989 or 1990

I think 2015 would beat the 2011 Keenum team to be honest.

I’m sure the Jackboyz, Elandon Roberts, and Steven Taylor would give Keenum, Edwards, and Carrier some trouble.

The fact that we created turnovers vs Lamar Jackson, Dalvin Cook, and Paxton Lynch gives 2015 an advantage.

That’s the way I lean as well.

That all 3 of this teams are toss ups for me that 76 team was a Great team with the exception of the Cotton Bowl loss to ND with that last second phantom TD which was given to them by the Ref’s.
