Guerin Emig: The Madness is gone, but memories were made

I caught up with Kelvin and Kellen Sampson on Saturday for a column. Kellen’s thoughts on succeeding his father at Houston one day didn’t make the cut. Here they are now:

“I don’t know if I’ve ever thought of it in those terms. This is an awesome program. The University of Houston is an awesome place. And so it would almost be reckless to think that I’m going to be the next guy.

“Would I love it? Absolutely. I’ve got a pretty good feel for the landscape. I’d be in good position to keep things running smoothly of course. But I don’t want to be egregious enough to think it’s my natural right. There’s lot of great places to cut your teeth and learn and grow. Just the mere fact of somebody allowing me to run a program would be pretty cool.”
