Which weasel flagged my post?

Upholding the faith and calling it true is not regressive. Pope Francis was a Catholic through and through and the was nothing progressive about him

An American born Pope. This upset is the magnitude of a #16 seed beating a #1 seed. This is #16 Fairleigh Dickinson beating #1 Purdue in 2023.

We don’t see everything immediately. Please flag if you see something that’s out of bounds and it will be taken care of (like this one was).

Pope Francis was widely seen as a progressive leader within the Catholic Church, advocating for issues like climate change immigration, and LGBTQ rights, and advocating for a more inclusive and compassionate Church.

He was also criticized for some of his conservative views.

The church has changed and evolved over time, it has not remained static and reflects the views and leadership of the pope.

Lets look at Peter Erdo who was a candidate, is a supporter of Victor Orban, Hungary’s far-right, authoritarian prime minister, and seems to be the most conservative/regresdive front-runner.

According to the College of Cardinals, he is firmly against the blessing of gay unions, but he does favour “pastoral support for those suffering same-sex attraction”. He is opposed to divorced and remarried couples receiving Holy Communion, and once argued that the church shouldn’t take in refugees because doing so would be tantamount to “human trafficking”. Erdo would have moved to undo the work of Pope Francis.

@JLCoog that analogy is about right.

Italians are complaining they have not had an Italian pope since the 70s, we have not had one since Columbus discovered America.

Hopefully Pope Leo will not only continue Pope Francis’ agenda, but pave the way even more so for the church to be more inclusive and forward thinking.

Nobody in the Church is ‘blessing gay unions’. Homosexuality is a mortal sin, full stop. Francis blessed homosexuals as he would any human, not their ‘unions’.

We aren’t going to go down the LGBTQ path.

I’m just clarifying. There seems to be some confusion.

Leave that here please.

Ok, and please stop.

Rumor was he was chosen by Francis to be the successor. So not quite the upset. I mean it only took 2 tries. If I remember from when I was a kid, other conclaves took longer.

If such a thing would happen, which I don’t expect, it would cause a schism similar to has happened to the Episcopal Church.

While this new Pope will focus on missionary efforts and social justice, his past statements suggest that on social issues, he’ll be to the Right of Francis.

I suspect that Pope Francis’ Secretary of State, Cardinal Parolin, was most likely Francis’ preferred successor, not Prevost, to the extent that Francis had any preference (which would be tough to prove).

That, plus the fact that Prevost was an American, made Prevost’s ascension a huge upset.

The only American that was even considered a leading contender going in was Cardinal Burke
and he was considered a bit too much of a traditionalist to win.

Pretty quick vote.

What? Uncle Leo?

Wonder if he would throw the firat pitch at a Padres game?

There’s actual video surfacing of him attending the 2005 World Series (which we won’t mention the final results). Nervously cheering for the Sox.
