On January 2, 2015, The Houston Cougars were able to score three touchdowns in the final 3:41 of the game to win the Armed Forces Bowl over Pittsburgh, which set the record for the largest fourth quarter comeback in NCAA Division I Bowl history.
This bowl game victory would be the launching point of what would be a magical sporting year in Houston!
(aside from what the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets achieved respectively in that calendar year of 2015)
Wife and daughter were telling my daughter’s boyfriend yesterday how they convinced me to leave that game right before the comeback started. I remember walking to the truck and started getting texts.
I was at the game with my wife, son, and future daughter in law. It was about the coldest I have ever been in my life, cold enough to snow, but freezing rain instead.
One for the memory books.
At the end of the 3rd quarter, Joe (81Coog) left the game and I told him he would miss the comeback. My bride spent the 3rd quarter in the ladies room warming up, but came back in time to see the end. It was raining and very cold and in the 2nd quarter she told me, “You better take me somewhere good on vacation.”
Obviously, it was worth sitting through every second of miserable weather to see that miraculous comeback.
My wife came down with flu so I gave my tickets away. But on gameday my wife was throwing up and feeling super bad so my niece and I took her to the medical clinic - we were listening to the game and when we scored the final touchdown we hollered so loud all the doctors and nurses came running out to see what happened. Never thought we had a chance.
There was a Cougar fan with a white stormtrooper Star Wars outfit on in front of me for some of the game. Can’t find the picture but have it somewhere.
