Happy 98th Birthday Jimmy Carter!

Damn…when is this streaming series coming to Netflix???

Grover Cleveland had an illegitimate child Jefferson had children by his teen age slave. Which today. Would be statutory rape. Since she was considered property she had no rights. Sure there are a few more who were morally derelict when it came to the opposite sex and there view and their dealings with them

He did well for Israel and Egypt. As for not going to war with Iran, that wasn’t necessary to get the hostages – all that was necessary was that Iran knew that we would if necessary. Did Reagan go to war with Iran? Did Iran release the hostages when Reagan was elected? When there was nothing to fear, Iran did what they wanted.

So, besides helping Egypt and Israel avoid a war that neither really wanted, what did he actually do for America? Low unemployment? No not that. Low inflation? No not that. More respect abroad? I don’t think so, I think were were seen as a paper tiger under his watch. Other countries knew they had no repercussions in running afoul of the U.S. I just can’t remember anything good for our country under his watch.

And here’s the thing.

Prior to knocking up his final liaison while he was in the White House, Harding had had another adulterous affair in which his mistress literally blackmailed Harding to pay her hush money to stay silent.

See here.

As for Carter, he sucked.

That’s why Reagan trounced him, and is now rated far more highly.

That’s my President man! Ya’ll really unfair.:crazy_face::crazy_face::crazy_face::joy::joy::joy::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I just found a video that provides a relatively fair portrayal of Harding.

While acknowledging Harding’s many scandals, it gives him credit for fighting anti-Semitism, making a speech against lynching in Alabama and fighting for civil rights, creating the 8 hour workday, the Washington Naval Treaty, and ushering in an economic boom with full employment.

I’m not sure how Harding’s administration would have turned out had he lived to the end of his first term.

I’m pretty certain that the Teapot Dome scandal, Veteran’s Bureau scandal, possibly his sex scandal (his mistress Nan Britton later wrote that she and Harding had had relations in a coat room at the White House itself), and Daugherty’s misadventures probably would have been enough to prevent him from being re-elected, regardless of whatever else he may have accomplished.

The President having sex with a mistress in a White House coat room?

….and we thought Clinton was a rascal. :grinning:

Clinton was like Harding except with some “me too” issues thrown in (Paula Jones, Juanita Broderick).

Boys will be boys. :grinning:
