Holgorsen Recruiting

3 wins were also vacated from 2018…I’m not exactly sure what your 1-4 is referring to…but it may be 0-5

I was referring to how Major wrapped up his final season at UH (i.e. what Dana was walking into when he agreed to come to UH).

Major was in the market for this 3rd OC and 2nd DC as well as coming off the most lopsided bowl loss in the history of college football so we will never know how recruiting, elective redshirting or the transfer portal exit would have played under Major going into season 3.

I forecasted 8 wins if Nealy was healthy. Briles brought in Kolb. Clancy Barone tampered with Nealy and got him to tranfer to SW Party State.

I thought the Oline with Nealy, Schirmer @ FB & Battle/Evans at TB would be dominant

So I was about ready to mute this thread, thinking the horse is dead by now. Then I saw

Coach Fickell is killing it. Wonder what his secret sauce is?

This guy ignored Holgorsen’s transfers.

So is Dykes.

A lot of guys early and looks like some solid players. Their average recruit ranking is lower than what they had last year by a little but still very good for G5. I would argue that SMU is actually doing the best job right now. The QB is a beast, 2 RBs that many P5s wanted, and a safety who would probably be a 4 star if he committed to a P5.

Are we counting JUCO’s? If so, then we have a highly regarded one that gives us 3…

Yes but our JUCO doesn’t have a rating yet. That said, he was rated well out of HS when he committed to us in 2018.

But…but, Apple Boy was so loved by all the HS coaches in the state !!

I’m a really good people. Can I coach at UH?

No, you can’t. I’m afraid you would not have had even the success of CTL or CMA, whom like I said, though being good people, they weren’t up to the task for one reason or another…

I credit Levine and his staff for really having the right idea when it came to recruiting the right type of players and trying to build a physical team on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately he wasnt able to put that all together with the coaching hires on the offensive side of the ball. Perfect timing for CTH to come in and take advantage of that.

So you were actually taking me seriously? Seriously? Seriously?

Of course not; but it sounds like you were taking me seriously.

The “Quit” left on the field under Applewhite is all I remember, with the exception of so many games coming out unprepared and glassy-eyed.

If you watched Dana’s first season you saw a team that came out most games slugging toe-to-toe but collapsing the second half due mostly to a paper thin O-line and an outmanned, one-deep defense.

I’ll never forget Clayton single-handedly keeping us in the game, drive after drive, against a deeper, older Navy team…until the o-line fell to pieces. When Clayton was 75% healthy I just kept thinking how good we would be with a deeper, more healthy O-line and defense. Clayton has talent aplenty.

Exactly. You also saw improvement to the way the team played.

I remember last year we only scored 3 points against Prairie View in the 2nd half…3 points

On a short week before our home opener against Mike Leach & WSU. Ya think we might have been showing only basic packages and/or resting personnel?!?

That was the reasoning given right after the game. But the rest of the season proved that to be the norm, versus a hidden strategy.
