I had not seen this one in a while.
Whoose Houseā¦!
Hey guys, I went ahead and had the university turn in a cheek swab DNA kit to Ancestry.com. It turns out UH1927 was right and UH is of Scottish noble descent; however, they are fathers of 4 illegitimate children. They are HCC, Lone Star, San Jac, and UHD.
To unravel the Houston family history we must start with the following. Before we even start to unravel the Houston family history I must tell you that there is another town called Houston and yes look no further it is in Scotland.
Sounds like some homeless person projectā¦not in favor of it at all.
Soā¦if you are a surviving relative of Sam Houston do you attend Sam Houston University or the University of Houston?
You take your core at Sam and transfer to UH your junior year, but you have to get a trade certificate at HCC.
Maybe we do a community project where athletes are partnered with a homeless person that lives with them during the semester. I met a lovely lady outside Minute Maid Park who screamed obscenities at me while I ate a subway sandwich in my truck. Sheād be a great fit.
Maybe we can house them at the dome and give them free tickets to the Houston/Oregon football game next door at NRGā¦oh wait. We already did that.
Sam Houston is named after the man, University of Houston is named after the city.
Yes, I know that but the City is named after the man and the University of Houston uses the Houston Family Coat of Arms INSTEAD of the City of Houston Seal so it is debatable.
New Mexico State.
You are missing a good basketball season.
House Houston?? Really? Iāll pass on that, we donāt need any weird stuff like that, in my humble opinion.
This is the House of Huston Coat of Arms, familiar phrase. āIn Timeā
AI take, comparing the 2
University of Houston Seal:
- Circular design rather than shield shape
- Stars representing Texas
- An open book symbolizing education
- A torch representing knowledge/enlightenment
- Latin motto āIn Temporeā (In Time) on a scroll
- Red and white as primary colors (the universityās colors)
While both share the concept of āIn Timeā in their mottos (one in English, one in Latin), the University of Houstonās design is more modern and academic in nature, focusing on educational symbols rather than the traditional heraldic elements found in the family coat of arms. The universityās design draws more from American academic traditions and Texas symbolism rather than Scottish heraldic heritage.
I forget. What do the three āmarletsā represent? I thought I heard what they represent at some point, but I canāt quite recall.
A martlet in English heraldry is a mythical bird without feet that never roosts from the moment of its drop-birth until its death fall; martlets are proposed to be continuously on the wing. It is a compelling allegory for continuous effort, expressed in heraldic charge depicting a stylised bird similar to a swift or a house martin, without feet.
