Houston Astros 2023 Season on a daily roll

Dusty is addicted to guaranteed defense over rookie hitter development.

I would not want to be a rookie playing every fifth game. That’s a recipe for failure.

He threw out a higher percentage of runners than Lee, Maldy, and Salazar in the spring……his bat needs to be in there even as DH or LF.

Not really.

A handful of singles and lots of k’s.

Hopefully now that the oh crap I’m in the big leagues wears off he’ll start hitting for some power.

He’s hitting .316.

OPS is .668. No bueno.

Before a 2-3 today he was 4-16 with 4 singles, no extra base hits, no rbis and 7 strikeouts……that’s almost a strikeout in 1/2 his AB’s.

It’s not good.

And like I said, I hope he starts unlocking his power potential. We all want to see him do well and be a starter in the outfield for years to come.

But I’m not going to look at it in rose colored glasses……

Batting average is not a stat that should be the determining factor anyway……it’s not 1980.

You need to be looking at a guys OPS….just in case you don’t know that is the OBP + slugging percentage.

Julks is at .500……that is horrible….he has no walks and no extra base hits until his double today.

I’ll take a guy with a .250 batting average and an .800 OPS rather than a .300 hitter with a .650 OPS.

None of this matters right now anyway……SSS.

Not arguing the point, just pointing out what their actions are telling me. Giving a spot start to Salazar behind the plate while keeping Diaz on ice doesn’t make sense unless they don’t like his receiving and/or defense. They might point to the lefty bat, I guess, or Dusty might think he needs a chance to reset, since he hasn’t hit when he has played.

Too many holes in the lineup until Altuve and Brantley get back.

So no fast start?

Doesn’t appear to be.

We give every third inning away uncontested and Bregman and Peña are sucking wind. Right now every pitcher that enters the game thinks he needs to pitch no-hit.

One thing I have noticed……seems as though every pitcher but Framber comes out to start and are not fully warmed up.

When I see guys that sit at 95-96 and they come out throwing 90-91 with the FB they aren’t hot and location isn’t sharp.

Hopefully the Astros aren’t 10 or 15 games out by the time Altuve and Brantley come back. I feel like people assume just because we have been good for a number of years now and won the world series we’ll automatically be good this year. It doesn’t work that way.

They struck out 17 fukin times today against nobody……their approach at the plate is absolutely garbage right now.

Good outing by Brown.

Verlander 2.0….let’s hope so.

Yes sir….in the 7th inning he was still hitting 97 on the gun….and that slider at 93-94….

Bregman always starts slow. Maybe he should look at his off season and spring training regimen.

Why give up a month and a half of production if you don’t have to.

He actually trains pretty hard in his offseason and spring training regimens, based on his YouTube channel. It is weird how he consistently starts slow.

He needs to change it up.

Maybe he needs more ABs in spring training.
