Not really sure Bregman can ‘afford’ to wait the three months, either. Before you know it, 150 million will be his best offer with the limited suitors he has choosing to pass on the 200 million asking and move on to other needs. Granted, SOMEONE will probably pay it, but does Bregman really wanna play for the White Sox?
This is what scares me……is signing a tomato can to play 3rd if we lose Bregman.
If that’s the case then let Dezenzo get a couple of hundred AB’s and see how he does.
We may have something there….even if he is not the guy he can put up Polanco numbers.
If we are not signing AB or Adams then let a rookie play.
Well, if they lose Bregman, a Tucker and/or Framber trade this offseason probably makes MORE sense, and maybe they get the MLB-ready reinforcements they’ll need to plug the holes!
Agreed.
If we keep Bregman we certainly have a chance to win the division and advance.
If we do not sign him then you have to get max value for those two guys……like you said, sign a couple of guys if need to plug the holes….the team won’t be as good but the pitching will keep them in the hunt.
I think Hunter and Spencer are going to have great years.
So yeah, maybe not as good for the next couple of years but we have some talent getting close in the minors plus you would be getting at least a couple of top 100 guys in the trades.
I’m more than okay with being “just okay” for a couple of years and then back to contention with a young nucleus.
I just don’t see losing a guy that starts every season on July 1st and now has arm troubles as a big deal if you can improve in other areas.
It’s the Intangibles 51! The intangibles are off the charts!
Yeah ok he works hard at his craft (except in spring training obviously).
It isn’t my money but I wouldn’t throw the reported amount of money at Bregman.
The Maldy Principle should be well-understood by Astros fans now.
I know Bregman isn’t at that level, but life comes at you fast. His public willingness to move to 2B is more than just trying to broaden his market, imo - I think he’s worried about his physical viability at 3B.
I don’t see re-signing him as a “mistake” even if it costs too much, but losing him would present a lot of opportunities.
This is a weird off season. There are a handful of guys that could really produce but we’d have to mortgage 5 years of our personnel. Then there’s another tier that represents treading water for a couple of years that we could get at a decent price.
Trade Pressly? We’d have to pay people to take that salary, which we’ll likely do. I just hate giving up talent to offload that contract.
I’ll bet we give Pressly away, pay a little bit of his contract and take a journeyman outfielder to save face.
Signed Funk
Oracle of the 281
I’d have bought Pressly out of his contract the minute the season ended. Guys got zero value. Pay the 2 mil and move on.
hmmm…wouldn’t say he has ZERO value, but if they can get out of the 14 million dollar contract, I would jump at it.
I just don’t know who’s trading for him at 14 million. And it doesn’t make sense for us to eat the contract because we could just buy him out and put that money towards a FA signing.
Exactly…if paying the 2 million gets them out of the contract, I’d jump at it.
Every potential move I have seen if we lose Bregman is a panic move I would rather move some big contracts and do a soft reset of the roster if we lose Bregman,
There’s no easy path for us. This is where the idiotic trashcan lid is biting our #%. Meanwhile the cheating Yankees have boatloads of talent.
While probably in better shape Polanco looks more and more like a Bagwell Special.
Soto decision apparently supposed to come by the end of the week…gut is strangely telling me he’s going to the Dodgers, which I’d be SOMEWHAT okay with as long as it’s not the Yankees.
I think Soto will go to the Mets.
I’d be okay with that, too
The Dodgers would have a payroll of almost 400M if they sign Soto….
If you have to spend that kind of money to win then in my book you are absolute excrement.
Only idiot fans would be excited to win a World Series with that kind of payroll.
It’s equivalent to a group of 10 year olds beating a group of 6 year olds 30-0 and then beating their chest.
And yes, I’d feel the same way if it were the Astros.
…and 395 of it would be deferred!!!
LOL
