On another note….we get Abreu, Montero and Pressly off the books after this season.
That’s a nice chunk of money……45M?

I could be wrong, but those may not count towards the luxury tax since they were released, no (Pressly, while still on the books, could get bought out, I guess)? That’s the number I gather they’ve always wanted to try to stay away from. Little unclear on that one.
Astros went over the luxury tax ( first level) for the second time ever last year.
If they sign Bregman or Adames they would likely go over again……this is still nada compared to the Dodgers “potentially “.
I’m pretty sure they still count.
And we still owe Lance 34M!!!
okay…they do…buyouts do not, though
Deferred money is also not subject to NOT counting towards LT…so, if Dodgers wanna keep deferring money, as of year 3 of doing so, they are taxed 50%…yikes
Pollard it’s even more than that after this season ('25)
Abreu 20 mil
Montero 11.5
Pressly 14
Framber 18.8 (per spotrac)
Tuck 16.7 (per spotrac)
Caratini 6 mil
TOTAL 87 mil
After '26
McCullers 17.7 mil
Greinke 12.5 (deferred $)
McCormick 6
TOTAL 36.2
You are correct Sideways ….i was only calculating $$$$ of guys we were wanting to rid ourselves of…
I was surprised when I looked up LM contract……I was thinking this was his last year on the books….only to find there was another one! Ugh
The Dodgers now have one BILLION $$ in deferred money on their books (and still making a play for Soto–supposedly one of the teams that have offered over 600 mil).
Gonna be $100 bucks to park and another hundy for a dog and a beer.
Yeah, for the BACK row of the lot, veggie dogs and Olympia beer!
2043-2046 is just ridiculous.
There are actually crazier (and older) contracts out there.
The Mets are still cutting Bobby Bonilla a $1 million check each June for a contract they signed with him almost 35 years ago!
It apparently runs to 2037.
Except Bonilla’s deal was a contract buy-out deal - these new contracts just defer salary, and a lot of it.
What’s so stupid about the Mets deal is that it was all to avoid paying that $5.9MM buyout in 2000. They deferred all payments until 2011, when the ~$1MM annual payments were to start. The Mets thought they’d be rolling in dough from a Bernie Madoff deal, and we know how that worked out.
Chris Davis is also getting paid by the Orioles until 2037. He’s getting $59MM in deferred payments, over $18MM to be paid in 2024 and 2025.
Crazy.
If the Dodgers never win another World Series, they could go bankrupt!
A lot of things can happen in 20+ years. I’m sure they lawyered up the contract pretty tight, but it would be hilarious if the Dodgers had to be sold to satisfy creditors.
Yes, and if they invest wisely they will make millions off those salaries being deferred.
True, but the operative is IF!
Are these guys locked in to the Dodgers for life now. Seems to me with all that deferred money, they can’t be traded.
They can be traded ( unless they have a no trade) , the new team would be on the hook for the deferred money……unless they got the Dodgers to eat part of the deferred money……
And that gets into what kind of prospects are you getting in return, etc.
heard this morning Soto may actually be leaning towards the Red Sox…anybody but the Yankees for me at this point!
