I don’t agree on Bohm but I agree on Smith. If he is MLB ready this is an Astros win.
This was definitely the right move but whether this was a good deal will be determined.

So what happens with Bryce?
And he was super impressive at the Cape….that is BIG!
6’3” and 220—-hit .347 at the Cape with a .981 OPS….that is incredibly impressive.
First year in pro ball was a huge success……BB/SO rate is Bregmanesque.
I like him also. Maybe I’m bias.
Bohm the highest pick of UH in AAC era. (3d)
Knee issue, Covid, etc. set him back early.
Caught on camera saying " I f-ing hate this town " as Philly Jabronis boo him.
Finally makes an All Star team. Big upside.
Huge for a 3d. Nice stretch for 1st later career.
Still like the actual trade.
FYI.
Astros farm system gets a bit saltier.
Nah, I’m glad that they turned that down.
If you move Framber, there better be a MLB ready outfielder in the deal. We can’t go into next season thinking a combination of Whitcomb, Meyers, Trammell, Dezenzo, McCormick, Dubon, and Melton are going to cut it. That is a bottom 5 outfield in the league.
Yeah, right now, the lineup leaves much to be desired. And we still don’t officially know if Bregman will be back.
Bregman’s out, rest assured. The Tucker trade seals that. But they won’t (and can’t) go into the season with the outfield they have right now. They’ll pick up some pieces over losing Bregman and go sign one, maybe two OFs to plug the holes there. They’ve been linked to Anthony Santander at times, but I don’t know if I see them giving him big money or a long-term deal at 30 years old. He rejected 21 million from the Orioles’ qualifying offer, so, I guess you’d have to start a little north of there. May have to work another trade. Framber, I guess, possibly becomes the next to garner that attention. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see them hang on to him just to try and salvage 2025. I’m not so sure they couldn’t sign him if they wanted to anyway. Without having to worry about paying Bregman, re-signing Tucker and a ton more money coming off the books for 2026, there should be room to give Framber a decent enough AAV deal, at least, especially if guys like Garcia and Javier don’t bounce back as quickly. May have to be a short deal, though, and Framber may want more security than that. Who knows, but there could be options there depending on the state of the rest of the rotation.
Isaac Paredes a good fit in Astros’ home ballpark
I don’t know if this makes me more excited or less. There are 81 games on the road as well.
That article is damning of Paredes’ swing strength. Basically says he struggles to get it over the wall at all but at least you have a short porch to help him. I wish I hadn’t read it.
The more I look at it this trade was about getting rid of Tucker and his contract. As a bonus we get a real strengthener to our farm.
This trade weakens the big club for the foreseeable future. Although Wezneski could become a top of the career Gravemen style pitcher…which might end up the real gem of the trade. Not to mention the net cash flow. Which never gets his due in historical trade talk.
On another topic I don’t think our big club (as it exists in theory) is even on the same planet as the Yankees. Dana is saying he’s not interested in trading Valdez now. So I expect a hard slog on Framber and Hunter’s backs next season. We are stagnant at first and just above middlin in CF. Not to mention the output at third before Cam finds his way up. Lets hope Altuve digs deep for one more great season and hope that Yordan stays healthy.
It’s a fun read, and there’s truth and merit to it, but at the same time, let’s not be hasty. The Crawford Boxes by themselves aren’t gonna turn Paredes into a 40-homer guy or anything.
While the article suggests an MLB-high 256 ‘cheapies’ have been hit at the park since 2015, that still only breaks down to about 25 a season…but that’s 25 homers a season across ALL players that homer there, so it’s unrealistic to expect Paredes or anyone else to get a bulk of those by themselves or enough so that it would alter their season totals much. The data suggests Paredes would have hit 7 more home runs last year. Hmmm…not sure I buy that completely since there are other factors in play when it comes to home runs hit and home runs allowed. It’s fun to speculate and try and measure, but when the season total number is 25 per season, per the data, I have a hard time believing one player is gonna carry that much weight of it. Even it was close to or around 7, that’s not really gonna turn him into Beast Mode or anything like the article makes you think.haha
98.9% of the time, you put a charge in a ball, it’s leaving ANY yard across the sport anyway. That’s just always been my take.
it’s 1 year of tucker for
-3 years of parades
-5 years of wesneski
-20 year old 14th overall pick from last year
This is what surplus value is all about.
Thats like 15 years of control for one year of Tucker. Even if Tucker goes bananas and puts up a 10 fWAR season it’s still likely to be a big win for the Astros (he probably won’t tho; his career high is 5).
I would be completely shocked if the Astros don’t get more than 5 WAR collectively from the assets acquired in this trade.
By the numbers, the trade looks really good. Organizationally, we don’t need more IF prospects unless we’re going to move some of them, but adding assets is always good.
On the field, when the GM is saying that our starting OF is Jake, Chas and TBD (wants to DH Yordan more), the trade looks dreadful. If Bregman leaves, then we’re seriously downgraded at two positions from an offense that was already leaking oil.
I get that some of this is just GM-speak, but if Brown isn’t actively pursuing an actual major league OF, then he needs to be fired immediately.
So, who is at 1st base right now? Singleton? That would be depressing.
Do you guys think we’ll trade Famber as well?
I’m gonna wait and see what happens….gotta a lot of time left before spring training.
I read that article….pretty dumb and I’m not even sure how accurate.
Paredes is going to do well for the Astros….look for Yainer to put up All-Star numbers as well….
And Dana is not close to being done.
And we all know what he said about Framber is simply to appease a fan base made up of mostly homers without much knowledge.
Framber is absolutely available….he is just going to wait a bit…heck, Framber may be more valuable than Tucker to the right team.
That is not happening….
Maybe we can stock up on more hot infield prospects and a middle reliever.
I’m just not sold on Dana’s deal-making, at this point. His experience has been more geared toward building prospect depth than championship teams. The Kikuchi deal really stings right now with our garbage OF situation. There’s gonna be a lot of pressure on Melton to produce this year if that doesn’t get shored up.
Oh, and I think Paredes has played 1B, so that might be a possibility if one of the youngsters is ready and we don’t make another move there - that’s a lot of ifs.
Paredes can play either corner….If AB does not sign I think Dana signs a 1b and Paredes plays 3rd.
Melton needs to be healthy and be ready to roll….he is going to strikeout a lot his first season or two in the bigs but he’s got a nice power, speed combo we are going to like.
“A man that can hit a homer and steal a base is a thing of beauty.”
