Man, I really hope that Jacob Melton can be that next young star for this team.
I personally think he is their/was 2nd rated prospect….this guy from Northside bound has him listed fourth.
A 55 tier is considered a top 50 prospect….B1 is consider above-average everyday player and All-Star.
I gotta run and get my butt back to practice but I’ll talk about more things I see and like about him when I’m done afterwards.
Take care fellas.
What I liked about Luhnow and Elias back in the day was they’d squeeze a throwaway project out of these deals. Some guy with good spin rates but struggling mightily in low A ball, or some 26 years old 4a guy with one shot left.
Wesneski I feel should be part of the core of the deal. I think Brown could have grabbed someone else.
The Astros played their best baseball last year when Tucker was hurt. So I have no issues moving him.
I am underwhelmed with the haul though.
I would have taken this deal.
Per 2 reports the Astros are in contact w Reps for Anthony Santander–1B . Now FA was w Orioles last few yrs.
Big Power bat from left side.
That’s a good bit worse deal than we got, imo.
Castellanos costs $20M/year and was pretty mediocre last year. He’s an ok hitter and bad defensively these days.
Bohm is solid but we also got a solid 3B in Paredes. Paredes is younger and as accomplished.
And you got a top prospect in Cam.
Dana Brown says plans are to give Wesneski the oppty to be Starter n not Reliever at this point. He’s done both last few yrs.
Astros probably also asked for prospect Justin Crawford (H-Town native Carl’s kid) and/or the Phils to kick in a bunch of Castellanos’ salary…probably too rich for them at that point.
Castellanos is known for being one of the biggest d-- in MLB. He’s obnoxious with the beat guys and not known as a fan-friendly player. The Astros, despite trashcan gate, have historically been a solid steward of the public domain. For all he would bring in talent I think he would have worn badly in the Astros family. I enjoy our great franchise for what it means to the city and state. I’m kinda glad we didn’t get him.
It was a strong haul, a ton of surplus value. If anything Chicago overpaid.
Yep. Someone broke it down on another site saying we traded away 1 win share this season but gained 8 win shares from 2026-2030. On paper, we won the trade.
Chicago definitely didn’t over pay. Tucker “statistically” is one of the premier players in the game.
Personally I am happy we moved him. I never thought his stats translated to wins like Yordan and Altuve’s do. When those two are going, the whole team is going. When Tucker is going…Tucker has nice stats or we win games by 4 runs instead of 2.
Same with Framber. I am ok with moving him. His stats are going to command ACE dollars next year. But an ACE wins huge games when everything is on the line. With the season on the line do you feel comfortable with Framber in the mound? I don’t.
But Chicago didn’t over pay for Tucker. But it was the right move to move him.
Cubs may not have overpaid, but if they’re not able to work an extention for Tucker, they’ll rue the day they gave up Cam Smith if he ends up being a stud.
Time will tell, but Smith looks legit to me. He raked at Florida State and is a chiseled specimen of a human being that at just 21, already looks like a man-child. May not project as a true 3B down the road from what I’ve read and heard, but his glove is not exactly the first thing that comes to mind anyway.
The kid’s a hitter, and he could even be up next year, I hear.
Agreed. If the Cubs don’t re-sign Tucker or if they don’t make a deep post season run this year, this is a win for the Astros.
I have no idea who the Astros are going to play in RF.
I like Paredes better than Bohm….not big on Castellanos personally.
But Cam Smith is the key to this deal.
