Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

Boras won’t let it happen now. He put his ego on display. He’ll accept some back-loaded arrangement to accept an offer from another club.

I think Bregman might fire him before agreeing to something like that. And that would be awesome to see.

Trying to place Pete Alonso & Bregs the same place ?
On Rico Brogna podcast that Boras wanted 3 years $110 million for Alonso.

Mets started thinking.
Vladimir Guerrero as FA after 25 for that kind of $.
Used Alonso’s $ to sign AJ Minter.

Boras turned down
7 years for @ $160 million for Alonso in 23.
(1 arbitration year/ 6 seasons)

3 years @ $70 million Mets final offer this week.

Vlad’s weight would scare me if I was a GM.

I don’t buy the Astros still in it on Bregman either.

I agree.
I’ve seen a lot of him in person.
BlueJays Spring Training in my neighborhood.

Already built like a fire hydrant and just
turning 26 for 2025 season.

Santander 5 years, 90-plus million from Blue Jays…there’s one domino

That almost certainly takes Toronto out of the mix for Bregman, and the Cubs are also going in a different direction. The Red Sox don’t want to pay him even as much as the Astros would have, and the Tigers probably won’t, either.

Closing in? Lol
I told you Boras would take his crayons to the offer sheet to save face.

The Astros offered him 6 years. What a moron.

In other news to watch, will Billy Wagner make it into the HOF this year? His last year of eligibility. I sure hope so! We will find out today.

4 years seems about right for Bregs later prime.

Bregs huge part of some good times. End of an era.
Cam Smith era in Htown starts now !

Has Boston forgotten that Great Grandfather Bregs
moved the Boston Redskins 2 Washington DC ?

Heard recently GG Bregs in a photo at Boxing Hall Of Fame.

Wagner is in!

First-timers Ichiro, CC and elite closer Wagner elected to Hall

BILLY WAGNER (82.5%)

Overshadowed on recent ballots by the only closers with 600-plus saves – Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman – the 53-year-old Wagner finally found relief on his final try in the BBWAA process. He becomes the ninth closer elected to the Hall.

Though undersized at 5-foot-10, Wagner made batters – and the many scouts who overlooked him – look foolish with a 100-mph heater and a hard slider. He used that combo to record the highest strikeout rate (33.2%) of any pitcher in history with at least 900 innings. Using that same minimum, Wagner’s .186 opponent average ranks as the lowest in the Modern Era, and his 2.31 ERA and 0.998 WHIP are both the best for a southpaw in the Live Ball Era.

In 16 seasons with the Astros, Phillies, Mets, Red Sox and Braves, Wagner compiled 422 saves and 1,196 strikeouts in 903 innings. His 225 saves with Houston are a franchise record. He was a seven-time All-Star.

Because Wagner, who retired after a 2010 season in which he put up a career-best 1.43 ERA with the Braves, lacked the longevity of Rivera and Hoffman, he faced a more arduous road to Cooperstown. His career innings total is the lowest among the Hall of Fame relievers, and it took a long while for his case to gain traction among the voters. Ultimately, though, Wagner’s status as the most purely dominant left-handed reliever of all time earned him enshrinement.

OK, so the Astros will now have THREE Hall of Famers with the Astros cap depicted on their plaques.

In all, Wagner will be the 12th player to have been a member of either the Astros or Colt .45s to be inducted.

It’s too bad Bregman didn’t look at how Altuve approached the situation and take note of how it has worked out. Some people just have to FAFO for themselves I guess.

MLB Trade Rumors says Astros and Blue Jays are in on Profar.

Jays just signed Santander though….

Just hard for me to believe we go in the season with this OF….Luxury Tax be damned.

They are saying Crane is open to paying luxury tax for a second straight year.

How do we feel about Profar? Very up and down career, although it does seem like he figured something out last year (hitting the ball harder far more per stats). But he’s not good defensively.

I guess with our hole he’s worth the risk. Bring in the glove late in the game.
