Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

It just gets more bats in the lineup, but it’s not feasible. I doubt that has even been discussed by people who matter.

Unfortunately 3 different Baseball writers including Nightengale himself have said he hasn’t waived his no-trade clause. So we shall see, but on hold. Once the other writers stated no trade clause has not been released by RP, Nightengale pretty much backtracked.

Edit: I’ll go find what i saw abt hour ago.

I have a feeling that this is probably a Crane directive, which is why they haven’t made any kind of move to sign a real OF.

“Pressure within the clubhouse” = Altuve

Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports that Houston’s offer “remains on the table.” Rome writes that pressure within the Astros’ clubhouse has contributed to the team reopening discussions with the two-time All-Star in recent days. It isn’t known if that means they’re open to pushing their offer beyond $156MM, or if they’re simply hoping that Bregman’s asking price will come down to their level now that he’s unsigned deep into January.

Here’s Chandler Rome on RP situation. I didn’t use to like him much 3 yrs ago when he was Beat Writer at Chronicle, but he changed quite bit once he was at The Athletic n is very plugged in w ongoings of Astros .

Hoping for Breggie return but not thinking the odds are in favor for that to occur.

I think its Boras feeding Rome. Hoping other teams will bite out of panic.

Okay.

Because, I hear “on the verge” that would insinuate it had been….i mean, why have talks that are damn near done if they haven’t even asked him yet?
Maybe he hasn’t officially waived but has given an indication he would.
I honestly can’t see why he wouldn’t Jesse….he would be given the opportunity to close for the Cubs rather than be a 7th inning guy here.

Hope it makes the finish line.

I still don’t care for Rome….maybe it’s just guys with that last name altogether

Staying in Houston makes the most sense for AB but I don’t think he can swallow his pride at this point….or maybe is Boras that won’t swallow his pride to allow it.

So look at this tweet……if this gets around to the average Astros fan Pressly would be booed every time he took the mound….if fans perceived him to be the reason we “couldn’t “ sign Bregman because he wouldn’t waive and go to the Cubs!!!

He”ll wish he had.

The one for sure plugged into Boras is Jon Heyman :100:, i think Nightengale gets info through Boras at times also. But Jon Heyman is main guy that he feeds. Lot of gossip out there on that situation.
Imo i don’t thk Boras messes w local Beat guys, although technically Nightengale covers the DBacks but is def known on Natl level based on breaking lots of trade news, signings etc.

Yea don’t think Jim Rome or you’ll be done…. Rome can be edgy w followers but that’s not what i want from him, so he works for me n has been very solid last couple yrs. My Go to guy on Natl level is usually Nightengale… very plugged in on Natl level. Come every beginning of July and till end of month he’s my info source on all the trade happenings. Heyman is good also but I dont care for him much ( Yankee Head) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:, but he’s more than decent during Trade period.

So then a bit of egg on his face if “on the verge” turns into “ no bueno, I’m staying in Houston”?

Could be, but literally nothing has changed over the last several weeks except that the Astros have replaced him already.

I think if Boras was behind it, you’d hear about “new” teams and not be hearing from Chandler Rome and Espada.

This team will be a mess of ill-fitting parts if he comes back, but they’ll figure it out.l

Here it is. Once Chandler & 2 others put out that RP hadn’t waived his NT Clause, he then put tweet out likewise. I agree w you that why didn’t he put that out in beginning. Get our hopes up :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

This was Joe Espada few days ago.

This Bregman thing is getting serious….now there is “mutual interest in a reunion”….

Obviously, they have spoken with Altuve and he has said he would be okay with OF if his buddy came back.

It’s getting real fellas.

So after we sign Bregman let’s go ahead and take Jack Flaherty off the unemployment line.

I mean if we are gonna go over the luxury tax we might as well blow by it and be a real World Series contender again!

Altuve in the outfield just sounds stupid. I would rather put Pena out there.

Look at Pollard spending everybody’s $$$:grin:. Easy fellow. I’m still way less than 50% on it happening. Step 1 is Pressly off the books imo.

No clue how you make the defense work well but assuming we can, adding Breg to the current team would make us legit.

Tuve should be able to cover good part of that 19 ft wall against the Crawford boxes.
