This part of it sucks, imo. RP is a good dude (and comes to a fair number of Coog games) and has always been a pro. He’s just nearing the end of the road, and we have his role covered by someone better.

There shouldn’t be a scenario where he gets booed for staying, but that would definitely happen. If he takes the deal, he’ll get a standing ovation every time he shows up in Houston.

Oh, and it looks like it’s the Cubs or nothing…

It’s the Cubs as closer or just late-inning reliever for the Astros for Ryan Pressly.
It’s his choice.
Tigers are out.

Weird world. A guy that wants to be loyal and stay will be hated for not wanting to leave to clear a place for a guy that doesn’t want to be here.

No wonder aliens bypass this place.

So, true Funk. I’m actually still a Pressly fan and want to see him turn it around and be what he was when he was the closer.

I’m not a Pressly hater either. I still think he has some gas in the tank. But he’s not what he once was. I am not a fan of big contracts for closers. There are too many pitchers out there that can give you one great inning. I’ve always thought closing is as much about mindset as skillset.

Without Pressly the Astros don’t win the 2022 World Series.

This is a couple of hours old, but it sounds promising.

Cubs getting close on obtaining Astros Ryan Pressly..Technical issues on contract and family accessibility. All resolvable issues.

Honestly, he should jump at the chance if he thinks he still has closer stuff (and all closers think that). I think he needs a change of scenery and a different pitching approach to do get that 9th inning back, and he won’t get either of those in Houston.

Also Abreau should be the 8th inning guy he should have been last year even with Pressley on the team.

Pressly was a good teammate. But he dropped down a tier. Once he lost the closer role it was gonna be hard with that big contract above him. He might have another round in him. I just wish they would get on with it. Dana will probably will take a journeyman AAA pitcher in return.

That very well could happen. If trade happens it’s more abt Salary relief than trying to get equal value from player perspective. Again imo, but it’s a given this is abt opening up Salary relief.

Edit: Astros are trying to get someone to take 10-14 mil off their hands. I can see them msking the trade n still being responsible for some of RP Salary. Happens all the time in deals.

This I don’t entirely disagree with if we get a solid OF in the deal.

The more Houston pays of the salary the better the return……

Also, we all assume it’s just RP….possible that it’s him and a decent guy in our system in order to get a better prospect in theirs….never know.

Or trading Framber if we have good news with our injured pitchers….Dana has the inside scoop obviously….you could definitely get an OF for him.

But they are both throwing off a mound.

I will believe they are coming back when I see them pitching in games.

I don’t think Lance McCullers will be ready for opening day in 2026, either.

More then likely he’s done.

A shame as he helped us win two WS and the reason he got hurt was them pitching him in the postseason on only three days rest.

He might have hurt his arm during that time but MLB history is chock full of hall-of-famers that pitched on short rest. I just think he’s brittle as a glass figurine. I love the guy but he’d throw his elbow outta socket making a pastrami samich.
