I knew it had to be….nobody in the front office or the field did.
He wants his boy back.
Exactly…but I would still suggest Paredes to LF…this way, you have just one player to have to acclimate to a new position vs. TWO (I know Paredes has played 2B some, but not really a ton of experience there).
Plus, Paredes is the new guy - give him the extra work.
On general principle, I may be inclined to go tell Bregman to play left!
LOL
But no, we want him back! hahaha
I never thought Lil Enos would have us in a position where we don’t have Bregman and we’re talking about moving people to the outfield. AND we still have Chas Myers on the payroll.
The problem is, he’s like the worst option to put in the OF, even including many of the pitchers. I’d put him and Caratini about neck-and-neck. ![]()
Question for you….
Altuve
Bregman
Alvarez
Walker
Yainer
Paredes
Pena
Profar
Meyers
So you sign AB and JP.
Then you have
Framber
Hunter
Flaherty
Blanco
Arrighetti
So you sign JF
And you put together an above average BP headed up by
Hader
Abreu
Does that lineup and starting five get you to the World Series?
And if you knew ( barring multiple injuries) that it would get you there……do you blow by the LT and sign those three guys?
I think that lineup would be brutal and the staff would be pretty damn good….it gets you to the WS against the Dodgers IMO.
Profar is off the table - signed with ATL.
I’d sign JF with someone else’s money. ![]()
But I don’t think we’re going that direction, even though it’s fun to think about. It is weird that he hasn’t signed despite not costing anyone a draft pick. Teams must be afraid that last year was a mirage.
Altuve, Walker, and Bregman in the same infield is rugged. Two of the best hitting eyes in the game and Altuve is one of the best high pitch, out of the strike zone hitters in MLB history. It would be a real downer for opposing pitchers.
Under your scenario you would have to exceed the tax threshold just to not waste the full season of having those three together.
But if Profar is gone who fills that fantasy spot?
But yes, you have to shoot for the golden ring. None of those three guys are youngsters. You strike while the iron is hot…imho
All 4 infield positions would be former gold glovers too.
Free agent wise I pivot to Randal Grichuk….otherwise you trade for the OF.
Flaherty has always had great stuff and he’s only 28….his control has gotten better….i don’t think it’s a mirage at this point.
Well, there it is.
Go to Chicago and you close….which gives you the opportunity to drive up your value next year in free agency if you pitch well.
Stay in Houston and you are 7th inning guy at best….plus you will be vilified if fans think you are the reason Bregman signs elsewhere.
If he is the competitor he claims to be it’s a no-brainer.
The franchise is stuck behind a second-tier 8 ball.
I saw this, saying that the Red Sox are close to an Arenado deal, which makes this Bregman stuff seem really legit.
Yeah, I think that’s been percolating, which has pushed Bregman our way.
But we had an Arenado deal, too, so you never know.
That is an old story and just a “prediction “.
Also, been reading Astros have the outline of a trade with Tigers if he vetoes Chicago deal.
And Bregs isn’t going to Chicago.
Does not make sense for Cubs to want to trade for him which theoretically helps Astros sign Bregman.
This Newsweek article says that the Red Sox have exhausted talks with Bregman and shifted to Arenado. Who knows if it will happen but it makes this Bregman stuff seem pretty legit.
Gotcha….misread what you meant.
