I’m typing fast so if the word that comes up looks close I’m tapping it an moving on….
I will come back and edit when I see mistakes….but since you called me out on it, I’m leaving it like it is!
I just thought the word choice was tainted.
Anyone else find it strange the Yankees closer is the opening day pitcher for the Mets?
Clay H. Has been around awhile….i find the move to SP really strange.
He’s attempting a reverse Smoltz.
I find it strange as well, but with the Mets lineup, he could still win 15 games!
I’ll bet you a dollar he is hurt before the All-Star break….its hard to go from short relief to SP……very difficult to build the endurance.
Younger guys can do it….but I don’t know I have seen a 30+ year old guy do it successfully.
I’m sure there are and someone will pull out several names….
But it ain’t easy.
Lineup is in…looks like Rodgers gets the nod at 2B over Dubon. Also interesting they have Cam batting 7th…with Espada, anything is possible, I guess.
Agreed…my response was more of an endorsement for the Mets offense anyway!
That is a pretty nice lineup.
Good to see Yordan back at #3….gives him a chance for more RBI’s but still gets him up in the first with the possibility for a solo shot if the first two guys are out.
Dubon not starting? I was hopeful that Rodgers would start but didn’t think it would happen.
I like Dubon in that super utility role better anyway.
Yeah, Yordan in 2-hole has never really made much sense to me.
Eventually, Cam hitting third and Yordan batting 4th will be peak production, IMO (with a ‘healthy’ Walker batting fifth followed by Yainer).
Cam will get better pitches to hit, and if that happens, good night, nurse!
My 3 most impactful players/things to Astros 90 win season:
Hayden Wesneski - if the Astros unlock his true potential, we could have 12-15 game winner on our hands.
Christian Walker - the 1B position produced a -1.9 WAR with a .624 OPS and wRC+ of 80. If Walker can produce as a 3 WAR player, it makes up big portion for loss of Tucker.
1st Inning Pitching - last year we got rocked in 1st innings. Looking at splits per inning, we gave up the second most HRs (27), runs (99), highest BA (.269) highest OPS (.789) and hits (170). Our first inning ERA (5.09) was 44 points higher than our second worse inning for the season. If we can get that down to the averages for all other innings, then we can have a monster season by our starters.
What!?
He has Rodgers and Jake hitting behind him now!
Sheesh, what more could a guy want?
I was actually hoping hit would be in the 4 or 5 hole purely to have a little protection.
Your last point is excellent….
Last season how many times did we think guys were not all the way heated up!?
That has to change this year….I would hope the very analytics you brought up have been looked at already.

Yes, this is excellent analysis…and to think, this is all without McCullers out there, too!
He did that to me too, Pollard

Yeah, I’m not sure if guys were amped up and the ball was up, or were they not warm yet. So very odd. It was like there was a league wide scouting report on the approach by hitters in the 1st. Attack! Attack! Attack!
Soto so effortless…even his singles are crushed
Happy Opening Day, fellas.
Cam Smith starting out good first at bat first hit.
First hit of the year for the Astros….
