I’ve seen it mentioned that they’re going to give him a look in the OF to see how that goes.
I have high hopes for that guy. He could play second base if the brittle, little 28 year-old figurine could carry his weight in the field. Smfh
And don’t worry about France. Dana got Teng.
Yeah, I’ve heard that as well….but I don’t want him out there before Cole or Smith….
If we could trade Jake that would help open things up.
Any truth to the rumor that Yordan’s attorney is suing the Astros??
Apparently for “pain and suffering” from having to run and jump.
What moves would you make before Spring Training if you were GM?
I would burn it down. This team ain’t winning any WS.
Yordan and the back he’s going to sprain in May to the Dodgers. Not so much to get someone like Zahir Hope but to saddle the Dodgers with two lolly-gaggers in their outfield. Get Hope and three pitching prospects and call that a day.
Send Myers and Arrighetti and Abreu to the Mets for Ryan Clifford.
Send Paredes to the Yankees for Elmer Rodriguez and Brendan Beck
Send Yainer to the Braves for Drake Baldwin and David McCabe and a couple of AA pitchers
Send Espada and Dana to Waffle House for the first two panhandlers to down 10 pancakes in a sitting.
Keep Correa, Altuve, and Walker to tutor Matthews and Clifford.
Keep Pena for the trade deadline and pick someone’s pocket for 4 prospects of your choice.
And get ready for 2029!!!
Knowing that the boss isn’t ready to break it all down and that the payroll can’t go up right now, my priorities would be to trade either Paredes or Walker, move Sanchez and Meyers for whatever, and sign JV, unless there’s high confidence in Arrighetti and/or Weiss. They have to create a little cap room for later moves, they have to clear out some of the OF, and they have to make room on the IF.
IMO, going into ST without dealing with the IF and OF body count would be malpractice. The idea that you can bounce Paredes around from 3B to 1B to DH to 2B?? to give guys days off is fantasyland stuff.
If the team is mid at the All Star break, then it’s time to get serious about a reboot, and everyone is on the table. There’s no way I’m trading anyone with real value other than Paredes right now, because they’ll bring more as the deadline approaches.
If he really wanted to get a 3rd then blow by the tax this year and really go for it.
But just being a playoff contender is boring….
Boss makes the rules, though.
Of course, but if you’re not going all in then blow it up….by the time you trade Pena, Yordan, Yeiner, Paredes, Meyers, Hunter and a few other pitchers you have immensely improved the farm.
And set yourself up for another young core.
I understand the thought process, but Crane loves his money, and Astros fans would disappear. He’d have to reset prices to bring people back. On top of that, I’m not sure he trusts that his current staff has the chops to orchestrate that kind of turnaround.
I don’t see it happening.
The problem with waiting to torch it is 40% of the guys we want to trade will be on the IL at the deadline. I know I’m being extreme and I don’t know how the season will play out. But I don’t think we can stay on the field with the Jays and there could be another five teams, including the Mariners, that could torch us. The Dodgers are The Borg waiting to blow up Norad and steal the Sofia Vergara for a war bride.
That may be true, but if you’re the GM, you don’t have the option to trade everyone away proactively.
If we’re just gonna use our wild imaginations, then let’s pretend like we can spend what the Dodgers do and go that route.
Im sure Correa and Altuve would both ask to be traded. Especially since Altuve will probably be ready to retire by the time they would contend again.
I didn’t know there was an alternative to using our wild imaginations. And who said I was referring to the GM? If you read my brilliant post you would see I referenced trading his ass too.
It sure looked like you were responding to this question. ![]()
If the question started with “if you were the owner” or “if you were Zeus” then the answers would look different. Simmah down. ![]()
Altuve would NEVER ask to be traded….and Correa has two rings, doubtful he would either….his home is in Houston and he is playing ball with his best friend.
Ok i got carried away
If they went through this hypothetical scenario that Funk laid out, management would sit down with them and let them know that winning would not be in the cards and probably ask if they wanted to go to contenders. Both of them are winners and professionals. This isn’t little league. It wouldn’t be the same roster that they saw win championships. They wouldn’t want to sit through a complete rebuild. Also, Correa does not have two rings.
Say what you want….but you clearly don’t get it.
Altuve is Craig Biggio….he is never being traded….the city would riot.
He will retire an Astro. 100%
