Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

You just need Abreu pitching his best right before the All Star break.

Let me reminisce for a moment. When I was a kid ESPN was the only game in town. We couldn’t get enough of it. When a pitcher had an arm problem it was an anomaly. Everyone remembered it. I remember when Steve Rogers played for the Expos. He had some arm problem and ESPN would cut into a live game (something unheard of) to see how he was doing. Now five, six, seven guys in one team have arm problems. What the Hell. Were guys just tougher back then? Or is there something pitchers are pursuing now that causes inflammation?

Btw - could Nick Allen be a reliable starter for 3-4 years?

I don’t know about that, but I think he’s putting up better numbers than Dubon.

How dare you disparage Funks favorite player.

Since we are waiting on the game, a bit of draft talk.

With the two first round picks there are three guys I would target.

SS-Bell from Kentucky would be a great pick.

CF-Zion Rose from Louisville….this kids hit tool is unreal….and uber athletic….he would be the Astros CF for the next decade IMO.

SS- Spangler- HS Kid with great all around tools….would have been a top 10 pick but was injured his senior year.

Personally, I would not even look at pitching until the comp pick from Framber at the earliest.
With all the arm injuries in today’s game I want guys that are gonna be part of my everyday lineup to be my early picks.

Astros win 9-2.

Walker’s 3 HR in b8 was spicy queso on the tortilla chip.

Mm, mm, good.

Anyone going to the game tomorrow.

I wish. It’s grad party season.

This seams somewhat counter intuitive to me. With all of the arm injuries, I would think we would need more arms. But at the same time, I know we are going to need some bats in the near future.

Don’t look now but the Mariners are at .500

Is it possible this division could have a team with a winning record at year’s end?

The freakin Tigers are already -11.5 out of first.
That has to be the Vegas Frightener of 2026.
Wtf

I just looked.

Torres, Mize, Verlander, Jansen, and Skubal are all on the IL. Does that leave Framber as the only starter from opening day?

I think Flaherty has been a starter all year, but maybe not.

Framber’s ERA is well over 4, and Flaherty’s is close to 6.

#%
And Flaherty can be a beast. When you look at the talent they accumulated on that staff it’s crazy.

Did they hire the Astros training staff?

It’s a lot easier to find and develop pitching than to find above average position players.

Mr Speaker, I’d like to follow up to my previous question. I wonder if JV went to california while on the IL

I’m looking forward to watching this new Nolan Ryan kid, but I’m afraid I’m going to hate watching a patient group of hitters facing Imai. Maybe he’ll surprise me.

Astros will have quite a challenge today with Misiorowski pitching for the Brewers.

Currently one of the best in MLB.

In his last 5 starts, he’s only given up 1 ER.

However, at 5-2, there is evidence that he is beatable.

Astros will need Imai and RP to pitch their best and for the offense to score enough runs to win.

Captain Obvious. :sunglasses:

Man, you could just sense Imai was going to give up a homer. Too many long fly balls just foul.

Kalas talking about Misiorowski and his 99 mph slider and I just want to say a breaking pitch at that velocity is just sick. I feel for his elbow.

Yeah, the long fly balls are just a learning process for hitters. That was going to happen.
He’s gotta stay doen
