Ideally you do some kind of platoon at second and pinch-hitting. Carlos isn’t giving you even Peña-level HRs. To me the biggest trap is wrapping all the lineup questions around Correa. The biggest priority is changing personnel and strengthening the farm. You can figure out Correa at the end as kind of a bonus. But he shouldn’t be close to the epicenter of the re-tooling.
Very good insight.
Cleveland comes back from an 0-2 hole and wins 3 straight to move on against Tampa in ALCS
I’m not a Guardians fan, but I like that the team with the lowest payroll moved on while the team with the highest payroll has the entire postseason to think about their 74-88 record. ![]()
cleveland showed that they were the superior team in the AL central. unfortunately for them the AL east is a whole other level. IF the rays do not sweep, i would be suprised.
i am sorry. i thought as this is the baseball board and this thread is on astros baseball, seems it would be very clear that i would be talking about baseball tickets. this time i projected upon you, sorry for that.
from microsoft bing:
“The average MLB salary in 2026 is approximately $5.34 million, with a median around $1.5 million and a league minimum of $780,000.”
so, if you make it 3 years in the mlb, you should be a multi-millionaire. For me, as i am not a professional baseball player; i think of a multi-millionaire in terms of total wealth, not salary. as in the normal world, those making 2 million annualy is 0.1% of the population, so living in the real world; i think total wealth; but i can see your point of view. in baseball only 15% make 2 million or more per week, certainly much greater percentage than every working american; but even if we go with the league minimum, which is 780k; no i do not need to support those with season tickets.
i never intended this to go on as long as it has, i replied initially and the board could not handle that altuve had even minimal participation in astros cheating or that the treatment he gets at other stadiums will continue as long as he is in an astros jersey. i will accept blame on that, i should have accepted the board is mostly astros fanatics; being objective and being fanatic are not the same.
BTW, on this sentence; “You are in the Top 5 of all-time worst posters on this sight.”; you might want to edit that as “site” if you are going to call me ignorant; but you know sometimes i wish i were ignorant. decades ago, even after graduating from UH i probably still was but had read over 700 books in the past 20 years and writtten two and read at least 2,000 articles annually. knowing what i do can be depressing at times as i can project things correctly very often; being ignorant and just being reactionary to what happens is a much happeir existence it seems.
Being blind doesn’t make you objective. You have an axe to grind and are incapable of processing facts about Altuve. The problem is you, not Astros fans.
The whole thing to the OF for Correa is moronic….my post was only sarcasm in case anyone did not pick up on that.
Now he’s telling us how smart he is. ![]()
Don’t know about anyone, but I would hope no one took it to heart. It was humorous for sure
He’s turned it into a d*ck measuring contest, bless his heart
i am absolutely objective. fans of other teams at other stadiums all over the league still heckle altuve. so they believe that altuve had involvement. it is the astros fans here saying it is not true and not fair. you all choose to be in denial, that’s being non-objective.
since the astros fanatics here still say i have some sort of axe to grind and i am not being objective, i asked something objective, microsoft bing - " Percentage of Baseball Fans Who Think Altuve Cheated"
from bing:
- Public opinion in practice:
- Support for the “cheater” label: Many fans — especially outside Houston — still call Altuve a “cheater” on platforms like X (Twitter) and Reddit, citing his role in the 2017 Astros sign-stealing scandal and his failure to publicly distance himself from the team’s actions
Sporting News+2.
- Opposition to the label: Other fans and former teammates (including Carlos Correa and Dusty Baker) argue Altuve did not want to participate in the scheme and was “the most innocent” of the team
Sporting News.
- Houston Public Media notes that while some Astros fans and media still label him a cheater, this sentiment is not given as much oxygen by other outlets, and many believe the vitriol exceeds what he “should” have received

- Scale of sentiment: While exact percentages are unavailable, the combination of persistent booing from road crowds, repeated social media accusations, and media coverage of the divide suggests that a substantial minority — likely in the 20–40% range among national baseball fans — still believe he cheated, but a majority do not
Sporting News+2. This is an estimate based on observable patterns, not a poll.
so, 20 to 40% still think he cheated and likely always will. the point i keep making.
Putting penile measurements and Altuve’s public image problems aside, the idea of Correa playing in the outfield next year does merit some further consideration. That is especially true when you reflect on the clown car cast of outfielders who wandered through the Astros’ roster this past season.
I think everyone likes the idea of having Correa on the team despite his fragility. But at this point he is not a better shortstop than Pena or a much better third baseman that Paredes. He could be a better second baseman than Altuve, at least with a glove, but the Astros will keep Altuve in the lineup and at second base as they increase their marketing of his quest for Hall of Fame qualifying 3,000 hits.
The greatest baseball teams of the modern era were the 1950s-60s Yankees. During that 20 year period they won 13 American League pennants. But they had “a problem”. They had two (2) great MVP caliber players, Elston Howard and Yogi Berra, both of whose primary position was catcher. (Howard won one MVP, Berra won three.) The solution to keeping both of them in the lineup was to play one of them in the outfield. During his career Yogi played 525 games in the outfield, and Howard played 554 games out there. Neither of them were great defensive outfielders, but they had Mickey Mantle playing centerfield next to them, which helped.
I don’t recall any of last year’s Astros outfielders being remembered for their stellar defensive skills, with Cam Smith, who hit .210 and struck out 148 times, being the best of the bunch. I highly suspect that, if Correa can play an entire season, he will hit a lot better than that. (Now, if the Astros could only get Mickey Mantle, …)
Parades is consistent and makes routine plays well but he’s a below average defender. We haven’t seen enough of Correa at 3B to make statistical observations but he’s going to be better and likely quite a bit better.
Correa is a plus defender but can’t stay healthy. Moving him to the OF would make him more susceptible to injuries.
Also, again, he’s never played in the OF. Not once since he was 18 and I’d be surprised if he played much at all out there before then.
Exactly. This definitely does not warrant serious discussion. ![]()
He would be a worse OF than Yordan, his offense would suffer because of it, and he would undoubtedly get hurt diving for what would be a routine out for a real OF.
It’s like people have forgotten what Altuve looked like out there.
Re-signing Varsho is an infinitely better plan, and that’s bad.
From my perspective I think you could platoon Altuve and Correa at second (at any percentage you want), giving them both a rest. And platoon Yordan and Altuve at DH giving Altuve another 20-25% of his average ABs. Correa and Altuve would be your pinch hitter on the days they were not ITL respectively. Both could get plenty of action and Altuve could get roughly 75% of his annual AB’s.
That MIGHT put precious Yordan in the lineup a few more times than you’d like but you could pare it down if you got nervous.
It would be contingent on how important you think Altuve’s record is.
Platooning is a thing, but the idea of Correa and Altuve and separately Altuve and Yordan sharing a position makes it seem like we are running part-time team, or what used to be called semi-pro baseball. Of course, we already have part-time pitching. No Houston pitcher threw a complete game in 2026. And any plan to play Correa anywhere on the field (or even on a message table) needs to include a team budget line item for bubblewrap.
Well, if you take that perspective then playing Altuve to achieve a record is beer league, too.
If you’re going to play old guys out of emotion then you need to platoon.
Correa in the OF is a non-starter.
But if you guys want to discuss this nonsense then carry on.
The Astros should not have let Dubon leave.
Watching the Game 3 replay of Atlanta vs Dodgers, Dubon robs a HR from Freddy Freeman in left field.
Batted .276 with 158 hits, which would have ranked him 2nd behind Alvarez in both categories.
