Houston Astros Baseball & MLB Discussions

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for whiny multi-millionaires but 162 games just seems too long. Honestly I think it would take a lot of concentration to recreate your best physical and mental preparation every night over that stretch. Not that 8 less games is that big a difference.

I’m cool with 154 and 7 games for division series……but “picking opponent” is bush IMO.

All those cats through the early 2000’s managed to do it and were not as physically fit as today’s players in general.

Today, I would consider most players soft….and it’s because they come up coddled.

When I coach, I teach but I coach hard….mental lapses are not tolerated….some players are just too soft and they usually have privileged parents.
The ones that stick it out sometimes for multiple years can go play anywhere and be a tough SOB not afraid of any situation.

Sorry, got off on a tangent I guess.

I know. It seems like Friday beer night at the bowling pyramid tournament. It’s getting panned pretty bad. I understand the underlying concern but a top seed should destroy any underlying from the WC series.

Also, some great stat from Neyens. Man I need positive waves, man.

Yes I am very serious!
Assuming we keep the infield:
Walker 1B - many writers are saying we should get rid of Walker. Old. Not high enough OPS, but he is a good fielder and he hit 29 HR’s and 87 RBI’s. I agree with FunkMasterMilluns we keep him 1 more year.
Altuve 2B - he is getting old but I think main problem he needs to lose weight. I think he will get back to hitting much better and even improve his fielding.
Pena SS - probably the Astros 2nd best player.
Paredes - solid hitter, slow, but good fielding 3B.
Alvarez - DH
If you don’t move Carlos Correa to outfield… what position do you play him?
Pollardsvision, rtcoog, and coogman91 or anyone else.
Mickey Mantle was moved from SS to CF. I am sure Carlos Correa can play any of the 3 outfield positions!
Schiavone 30 HRS and 30 SB at AAA can be moved to outfield next year. He plays catcher but by reputation he has strong arm and if can steal 30 bases he has speed.

Who should start in outfield for the Astros next year?

They were working Carlos out at 2B when they were rehabbing him, so I’m sure he will spend some time there. I think the Astros should sign an outfielder or two who can hit.

The idea of Varsho, Trammell and Meyers in the offensive line up don’t do it for you?

You move someone so he can play 3B or SS. Putting Correa in the OF would likely be a disaster.

Has he ever played OF at any level? He certainly hasn’t since he turned 18.

He’s also had injury problems.

It’s not unprecedented to move someone to OF this late in their career but it’s extremely rare.

Mantle moved when he was 19 and had never played SS in the majors.

Correa is 32 and moved from SS to 3B to help prolong his career and avoid injuries. He’s never played any OF position, much less the most difficult one on the field.

This is not feasible.

correct, now writing my third.

in order to go to enough games that i would consider myself a “fan”, i would be a season ticket holder; which i am not. i go to one game that i like. usually it’s a national league team as they don’t come thru detroit every year. i wouldn’t waste a game ticket just to hecjle altuve for cheating or his minimal involvement in astros cheating mostly because the astros as shown enough on espn and fox. imo, the astros get eyeballs because of that scandall they did not get before.

this is from microsoft bing:
" For the 2026 season, Detroit Tigers full-season ticket prices range from about $1,800 to over $7,000 per seat depending on location, with deposits sometimes as low as $50 per seat."

seems you are still putting your perception of me on me instead of what is true.

Projecting what?

Did I mention MLB in my post? Please quote where I did….add lack of comprehension skills to your flaws.

I saw your idiotic statement that said you don’t go to “MLB, pro or college baseball because it would cost you thousands “……

So no, you don’t know squat about baseball……do you know how many MiLB players are worth over a million? And college kids? GTFO

So 1) YOU don’t have to spend thousands to go to a game and 2) They are not a bunch of “multimillionaires “.

You are in the Top 5 of all-time worst posters on this sight.

And your only reason for coming on the baseball board is to troll which makes you an incredible loser……or 2) you are truly the most ignorant individual I have come across in years.

Likely both.

After thinking about it I kinda dig your idea but would go a step further.

Correa to CF
Altuve to LF
Walker to RF
Paredes to 2b
Yainer to 1b
Cam to 3b
Allen to SS
Vasquez to C

Sound good?

It would be entertaining in a train wreck kind of way.

Correa has the arm for the OF, but probably would incur additional injury chasing down line drives or bouncing off the OF wall, if converted into a permanent OF.

I’ve often wondered why he hasn’t been used at 1B?

He has the glove, the length, requires less lateral movement, an extraordinary amount of infield experience and the team leader.

Walker has power, but his 29 HRs should have generated more than 89 RBI. Too many solo shots. Not entirely his fault. Just saying.

Correa has too much defensive talent to be utilized in a singular role. Perhaps he could be used as a utility player: infield, spot outfield and DH on days to give players a day off.

Just thinking outside the box.

You don’t want to waste Correa’s arm at 1B.

Paredes’ and Peña’s arms are more than adequate for the infield.

Correa has plenty throwing velocity for the OF, but if he sustains injury, then he’s no help to the team.
