Sounds like he missed his spot….was probably supposed to climb the ladder and not speed the guys hands up with off speed….just didn’t get it up.
If Framber went off script, there should have been a meeting on the mound to get him back to the game plan. That’s on Diaz, the pitching coach, and Espada.
At least he owned it. Hopefully he trusts his catcher more next outing.
It’s really on Espada….Framber is a 7 year vet….If Yainer goes out and says something he’s gonna be told to eff off and get back behind the plate.
Had it been anyone other than Framber or Verlander then I would agree.
They definitely had a meeting. Framber immediately gave up another bomb.
This is just what you’re going to get from a talented pitcher prone to bouts of flakiness.
His “I had to deal with the consequences” answer is BS, though. The TEAM had to deal with the consequences of him deciding to do what he wanted.
I’d be fine with trading Framber, honestly. He was one who insisted on having Maldonado in the game (to the detriment of the team). He also pushed the idea of calling his own pitches earlier this year. At some point that quirkiness becomes a problem for the team.
Well said.
And no way you give Framber a big money extension.
I agree to cash in at some point with him.
If you go off script against the better judgment of the manager and catcher, there should be a stiff fine. A slap on the wrist doesn’t cut it.
The outcome is punishment enough.
This makes me think Framber is one of the stupidest individuals currently donning an Astros uniform. I have no issues with going off script as a veteran. Give up a crooked number bomb and you still think what you’re calling is working? That’s where he loses me.
It’s pure sabotage. What a clown.
I would say its a manager’s responsibility to go out there and find out why he can’t throw a pitch the catcher wants. But Hell. Like I said, Espada lets his pitchers make a lot of decisions, or it seems that way
I heard Locker on 610 disparage Jeff Bagwell again because he was helping out with Jose Abreu. I don’t find anything wrong with this. Why does one of the greatest players in franchise history get so much hate these days?
Great player does not always equal great coach or great front office person.
As much as we all loathe Abreu’s performance, most were okay with the signing at the time….though some did prefer Yuli on a one year deal.
But the two signings Bagwell was “in charge “ of is where the hate comes from.
Had some greatness then lost it.
He may have greatness ahead but its probably somewhere else.
Current staff & vets go way back w him. Just don’t think he will listen.
A few pitchers back after rough starts.
It’s on Abreu for not performing, not Bags. Like you said, most liked the signing at the time, me included. I will always stick up for my favorite Astro of all-time!
I agree but it’s a little unfair to blame him for a player underperforming, especially when Jim Crane signed off on it.
It’s fair when he was the one that was instrumental in bringing him here.
There wasn’t anyone blasting the signing of Abreu. In fact most people around MLB praised it (like 95%).
As for Espada, he’s in over his head, and he’s clueless when it comes to handling a pitching staff.
If you didn’t like the signing when it happened, then credit to you. I did like it. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out.
