I’ll keep saying because I think that it’s as important as the losses that keep happening when Pressly pitches.
Pressly has a vesting option for a $12MM contract next year if he pitches in 50 games. He is at 27 appearances through 66 games. Why in the world would the Astros want to have to pick up that option?
So if you’re not going to stop using him due to general ineffectiveness, stop using him before you are married to him next year as well.
Yes, Cabbage’s dreams will be haunted by that non-catch for a very long time. And when he wakes up from them, he’ll be in Sugar Land or somewhere other than Houston. That play, which was sort of a metaphor for the whole team-effort to give the game away, coupled with Tucker’s injury, should clear the way for Loperfido to become a starter especially because Meyer’s bat seems to have cooked off just as suddenly as it magically heated up.
Pressly’s vesting clause for '25 is mutual. Yes he needs to reach 50 appearances this yr for it to kick in, however since it’s mutual, the Astros can decline it, but would have to pay him a 2 million buyout.
I don’t think he is going to go full rebuild or even close to it……he wants to win so I’m sure this season is really pissing him off.
I think it will be a “soft” rebuild or “re-set”.
I think Bregman will be traded along with a few other guys.
So we will have a core of( non-pitchers) :
Altuve
Alvarez
Yainer
Pena
Loperfido
Either Meyers or Chas ( one will be traded)
I think by signing Tucker it will adds to the legitimacy of “we have a great core” and are still “ The Astros”.
With Bregman out of the picture and some other money coming off the books it is viable.
Springer was older so a big deal was not ideal….We had Pena waiting in the wings so Correa was expendable….but we really need Tucker to stay relevant and he is still young……I don’t see a ten year deal ( and those are going out of style) but I do see a 7-8 year deal with a huge AAV.
That makes Crane happy, the fans happy and Tucker can still get a decent little contract at the end of this if he deserves it.
If Crane was ever going to give out “the big one” everything lines up for this to be the one.
It will be interesting to see how many long-term contracts are offered this off-season. Also curious to see if more teams start trying to defer some of the money on contracts for future years?
As I said previously, I think Crane will be willing to go way above what he’s been willing to do in the past for Tucker, but my gut tells me he’s still going to be way off what he’ll get from some team(s) in free agency. Hope I’m wrong.
Well, I think the 9 -10 year deals are gone….too many teams are getting burned….and they’re not even getting close to the end of these deals before they realized they are screwed.
And you speak of deferred money….that is something Crane may do for the first time to get Tucker done.
Let’s also remember that from the time Crane purchased the team until present day……
465M in 2011……2024 value is 2.42B
That is a profit of nearly 2 billion in 13 years.
He has more money available then almost every other owner in baseball.
I think the back is good……nothing to be too concerned with….
Just turned 22 in March and they started him in A+ ball coming off the time off……really surprised me because last year he did not play particularly well at low A ball.
Leads me to believe he was worn out and playing less than 100%.
He is showing why he was such a high pick….and maybe should have been even higher.
It seems like one of the “core” guys should be in the lineup sometimes, though. No Loperfido again tonight.
I’m sure he’ll rationalize it as a righty/lefty thing, but there’s no way I’m buying that a Dubon, Chas and Jake OF is so tight that there’s no room for the new guy.
Abreu at 1B is a given now that he’s hit the ball a few times and played one good defensive game.
They’ve taken a sports car that needed a tune-up and decided to run 83 octane and recap tires on it.
