Houston, Embrace The Suck

Just returned from a long trip to Greece. The airport in Athens isn’t new but it is clean and filled with many high level shops. The restrooms are on a Buccees level. Philadelphia’s airport was the same, iconic Philly restaurants and Buccees level restrooms.

Houston IAH, not so much. Most disturbing was, walking into the restroom in Terminal A. The urinal area is blocked off and 6 workers are standing around bsing. You had to use the toilets which were either overflowing or covered in paper.

World Cup, here we come!

Flew out of IAH back in October and was not impressed AT ALL with the new terminal. Shite tonnes of wasted space and not enough chairs for passengers waiting for planes to land, intentionally making people sit at bars and restaurants or standing. It’s total BS. But hey, fancy super high ceilings for no reason is nice I suppose.

The athens airport was a total cluster when I was there, we were told our flight got cancelled for some reason no one could explain but it actually wasn’t and no one there knew what was going on or cared to find out. Help desk people were literally brushing us off saying ‘idk what to tell you’. We eventually had to call the delta reps in the US to figure out what was up with our flights. Chaos.

i had thought this would be about the oncoming ungawdy houston summer.

sitting on an airport floor or one less working bathroom never bothered me, it was always how far/long to the gate and how long to have to be in the airport; IAH is bad with both of those; hobby was great because it was small and quick to get to.

I like IAH better than Philly’s airport.

Look, the operations of an airport usually suck. I’ve been arguing that airport operations should be contracted to cruise lines. At least my bags would show up in a timely manner.

My original post just dealt with the cleanliness and overall maintenance of the facility with the World Cup arriving in few weeks

About 6-7 years ago, I had to fly to Phlly at least once a month. My last flight there was March, 2020. I HATED that airport. It was an absolute petri dish. I’m glad they cleaned it up.

There’s a lot of lazy gross in Houston but IAH probably tops the charts. I’ve been there probably six times this month.

Abbot should condemn that m#%f#%er and then cite the Houston metro for being a disgrace to the country.

buc-ee’s level airport bathrooms stagger my belief, especially after a couple trips through istanbul.

I wish Buc-ee’s would take over the airport gift shops and restrooms. Think about the revenue stream for them.

I was in Athens a couple years back actually don’t recall the airport at all
Flying into Athens in 2 weeks but out from Istanbul
Saw the comment below on Istanbul, not surprising and I wasn’t expecting much
Hopefully the club there will be decent

If you want Bucee’s level bathrooms and general cleanliness…but on steroids

Tokyo Narita

I fly in/out of Hobby twice a month. It’s a breeze every single time. Sometimes I check bags and sometimes not. When I do, they seem to get to the pickup relatively quickly, every single time. I’ve rarely been waiting more than 5-10 minutes and I’m usually in the first 10 rows so I deplane relatively fast.

that is my only gripe about hobby is picking up luggage, they always seem to be the slowest of any airport getting it to the belt, especially for a small airport. i usually am one of the last people off the plane as i just read while everyone else stands in the aisle trying to save a minute.

i have no idea how they compare to bucees as i have never been and will likely never be in one. a walmart with fuel pumps, i’ll pass.
