How are we feeling about our fans

I got relatives in LA and UCLA transformed from a commuter school to a destination school even with academic and athletic competition from USC, Cal, and Stanford.
UH does have them beat for football attendance in terms of capacity but that is because football is dying in popularity on the west coast.

UCF has more home sellouts than UH the past few years even with stiff competition from P5 schools like UF, FSU, and Miami.

Cincinnati has seen their home attendance increase dramatically with sellouts with P5s Ohio State, Kentucky, and Louisville all within a 2 hour drive.

I watched a replay of the aTm vs LSU game in the last day or two and the Aggies dominated the game winning 38-23. They looked very impressive and all of those freshmen look like they will get much better. I think they will be a force in the SEC next year and for a couple of years.

Being that LSU is my 2nd favorite team, I am not biased toward aTm, and am just telling it how I see it.

Yeah why don’t kids from Dallas , Austin, San Antonio come to UH as a destination, there is not the “college experience “ like at other schools, UH needs to change that, need restaurants, bars etc around that kids can hang out at in and around campus

There’s definitely a lot of politics around developing the area UH is in, feel like thats been holding back getting that college experience.

The only way we get the same experience as other big schools is if we have better Greek Life (i.e. actual mansions) and more affordable off campus housing

That being said, we aren’t a destination school. We are still a school for commuters, and most of the demographic doesn’t see a reason to pay rent to live near school when you can just travel in from home.

UH doesn’t have the traditional college experience because there’s not much to do on or near campus unless you’re 21+.

When I was at UH (2014-2018), literally every weekend we would go to college station and sometimes Austin to go party on the weekends. UH doesn’t have this luxury.

N3 always had several large groups tailgating for most home games.

The Dome did not allow tailgating in the parking lots until the last couple of years, then it was only allowed in the north lot. Toward the end of our contract with the Dome it was a very unfriendly stadium for UH fans. 15 minutes of the game ending they would turn down the lights and the security people would be telling us we had to leave. I was not sorry to leave that place.

UH needs 8 or 10 bars right there along Scott Street to be the place to be. It can be our 6th street, northgate, and whatever those bars are near SMU where I watched the Astros win the world series. I couldn’t believe that several thousand of their students leave at halftime to hit the bars up.

I know the Houston Oilers prohibited tailgating at the Astrodome, but I doubt it applied to UH games. Still, there was probably a carry-over effect.

Concerning attendance in Austin and Collieville, just check the traffic on 10/71 and 290/6 on game day Saturdays . . . . .

I told my daughter she can attend any school she wants. Not just UH. She just has to pay for it.

Bingo!

It wasn’t the Oilers, it was the people that operated the Dome. We parked in W2 and had several run ins with the Dome rent a cops.

It was actually the Astros that controlled the dome and prohibited tailgating.

Astros crew probably got tired of picking up all the ding-dong wrappers on the ground from the 7-11.

If we get the billion from the state then we should offer some scholarships and partial for out of town kids.
