How would you rate our offseason?

the thing is, Harwell wasn’t just mediocre offensively, as the year wore on he became an offensive disaster. his three point attempts often didn’t even graze the hoop.

Why TF we still talking about Harwell? He doesn’t want to be here and he didn’t want to go through the adversity of competing at our program. He had every chance to be a big part of our team next year but instead of believing in CKS and the process he dipped out. Let him. I mean he doesn’t even compare to TMark or TArc, those guys at least stuck around through 3 grueling off-season conditioning programs. They wanted to get better, Harwell wanted a silver spoon. It didn’t work out, move on and lets stop talking about a player who is less than a spec of dust in the history of Cougar basketball.

Gang,

I noticed on social media that Gillespie just received his Bachelor’s degree from Kent State.

Kudos to him!

Eligibility and academic distractions won’t be an issue for him, and he’ll be able to pour more focus into his game.

Well he still has to go to school lol

I like that. Shows discipline and maturity. I’m sure the UH Coaches knew that before offering.

Do you really think that most athletes today are still required to attend classes in this NIL era? With the NCAA effectively neutered, who is going to enforce player eligibility?

I would suspect that most college basketball players today rarely attend classes in person, but rather have personal tutors/counselors/assistants that do some or most, if not all, of their class work for them… including even taking any requisite tests for them.

[As I recall, even back in 1984 when UH lost in the national championship game to Georgetown, one of their players (Michael Graham) scored 14 points & had 5 rebounds even though he reportedly never did pass any class or earn a single credit hour the whole year he played there.]

Is this true. Saw on Facebook

LOL not likely. 95% of what is posted on Facebook is AI slop and fake news.

His dad’s name is Rhett Butler. At least that’s what FB says. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Found the FB post. I assume that is his dad? Looks like his kid is Owen, who plays for a private school in Dallas. Owen doesnt look exactly like the picture above.

We’re really digging into a fake “Class of 2030 commitment?” :no_mouth: :no_mouth: :no_mouth:

Hey, I’m glad the kid is reaching for the stars and whatnot, but this doesn’t really pertain to our offseason.

2030 huh…. Well, if he shows ability and a commitment to hard work, he might be a nice preferred walk on candidate.

A poor man’s Ryan Elvin? Lol

Yes, it is a requirement (at least through the last semester, e.g. Cenac, Flemings) even though they have resources to help and are advised to stay away from courses like Differential Equations and more towards Sports Medicine.

Edit:
If the day ever comes to where education isn’t a requirement, I’m out.

Obviously, education has to be part of the requirement for the kids since this is a university setting. However, the model by which the education is delivered has changed dramatically with both technology and how big college sports has become.

Case in point, at least for some of our teams from a few years ago I was told that the basketball team could take coursework directly from inside the Guy V Lewis center and not physically attend the classes with the rest of the students. A more controlled environment with potentially greater attention for the learning process with the kids.

So great results from a learning and graduation rates perspective, but not “attending classes” in the classical sense of going to the classroom with most of the other students.
