How long do we have to have local channels 2, 11, and 13 say the same thing over and over to tell us it’s raining and there may be tornado warnings in the greater Houston area. You would think a Category 5 hurricane was coming up I-45 with 175 MPH winds.
There’s a note on the bottom of the screen that the Pinstripe Bowl is in halftime and that the station will be returning to the game once halftime is over. I hope that’s true because UConn is killing UNC and I’m bored.
I am suprised that local news hasn’t been cutting staff since the iphone came out, we can all get weather specific to within a mile of us in our back pocket today. i have no idea who watches local news anymore but i haven’t in years.
I understand the frustration but it’s a public safety issue. Viewers are changing by the minute. In fact, I
read somewhere a while back that for every minute of a broadcast, viewership changes by 4%. I’m not sure of the accuracy of that percentage but the point is, viewers are coming and going from broadcasts.
I wonder how many of the people, who had received damage, watched one of the weather casts on TV. And if they did, what difference would it have made, what would they have done differently?
Can’t limit that to people who received damage. The broadcasts give warnings ahead of time, before people know where the damage will be and the extent of the damage.
OK, so let’s say you get a tornado warning for your area, what will you do differently, what actions will you take? We’ve gotten warnings in my area before, but my life goes on as normal because we don’t really know where or when it will hit if it does materialize. So what good do they do? We don’t have emanate warning sirens.
The broadcasts seem to pinpoint areas of the threat pretty well. If I saw my street pinpointed in the path like I saw some streets around Disney elementary on the broadcast, I would probably move to the safest place in my home. Doesn’t mean my home is about to get destroyed but best to get to safest place for like 15 minutes or so. This level of warning seems like a good thing.
It would be interesting to see ch 13s numbers during the game before the weather situation and during. I would wonder if numbers might even go up b/c more people would be interested in the weather, even if not in their neighborhood, than a Nebraska vs whoever (b.c. I think?) bowl game. Esp when they had the game in the upper corner of the screen.
