The color seems more scarlet after years of candy apple.

I would not complain if those were UH’s home unis for the rest of the season.

I like Scarlet helmets or candy apple helmets. Anything but white helmets.
White helmets suck.

I think the helmets still had a candy finish, they just figured out after like a decade that they need a much lighter base coat to actually look like the school color. Probably the best of both worlds in that regard.
