Years ago, one of the Goodyear Blimps made its home in Houston, in a hanger off I-45. The blimp used to travel around to high school games on Friday and college games on Saturday. I used to drive home from work on Friday afternoon and see the blimp, slowly making its way through the sky, and was reminded that it was the weekend.
I miss the good old blimp during football season.
My grandmother lived in Fort Worth. Often when we traveled home from a visit we would see the blimp near the hangar after a hard weekend of work. I’m sure leaving it outside the hangar on a busy Sunday afternoon-evening wasn’t intentionally done for promotional purposes

I went down the wormhole when I got home, and the blimp left Houston in 1992.
Drones are a much better simpler and cheaper way to go. The only issue is that one can create mischief with drones but not a blimp. JMHO
Blimps have personality, unlike drones. They have lighted electronic messages that shine at night. It was fun at Christmas time seeing the blimp wishing everyone a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.
Most of the people I know see a blimp and they smile.

As a kid, I can remember passing by where the blimp was stationed when we came to games. It was easy to see from I-45.
I wonder how many wrecks happened on I-45 from people looking up at the blimp around the hangar up there.
Last time I saw a blimp hovering over a game was the SA Final Four and one had Charles Barkley and the other had Magic Johnson on it, did anybody else see those.

Live in Spring and used to see the blimp almost every day, came over my house-low. My neighbor was a retired Army colonel and Exxon exec and got to ride in it one time–told me to be sure i was looking for it the day he went. They came over so low i could see him wave and the pilot gunned the engines a couple of times, how cool! I miss it too, it used to fly like a porpoise going up and down. Nights were special, they had all the lights going when it flew.
I remember when we had the Goodyear blimp here. In around 96/97 ish there was another blimp here, maybe only temporarily, I think it was sponsored by Blockbuster. 94.5 The Buzz was doing a contest to ride the blimp with Mikki (who was on air and a Playboy playmate) and I think maybe another female DJ… I entered, they called me to go but I couldn’t do it at the time/day they had scheduled so.
