I will get bashed for this but…

Why is Feritta not our Cody Campbell? Texas Tech is insane in recruiting compared to before he opened his checkbook. Just got top 5 rated HS player and a top transfer class. Fertitta could easily do the same. $20-30M/year is a rounding error for the guy especially seeing that his net worth has exploded in the last 5 years. I know I know ‘his money you give yours’, ‘he’s already donated alot’ and ‘Fritz doesn’t need Tillman’s money’. Commence the same things I’ve heard a million times already on this board.

Has anyone ever asked him that question explicitly though? “Tillman, we know you love UH Football, why don’t you just play by the current rules and buy a top 10 football team?”

He bought the Rockets instead.

If Tech goes 6-6 with this roster, lets see if Mr Campbell keeps writing these checks.

Tilman is a savvy business man.

More justification to pay for our team. Rockets operate under a defacto salary cap and are a cash cow. Net cash surplus. Big reason why his net worth has exploded. Is your point that now his main sports fandom has pivoted to the Rockets and he cares less about UH than 10 years ago at least in terms or willingness to jump into NIL war? Fair enough if that is your point. The money thing regarding owning the Rockets supports the ability to pump UH though. It the opposite.

I think he is still more pissed about this.

I’ve been saying it for a couple of years.

Tilman could write double the checks that Campbell could. But he doesn’t want to.

Fine… I’ll start drinking with him and he can call me coach… or whatever he wants to call me…

I’m not too bent out-of-shape about TT buying players. Buying players does not guarantee championships. In some cases, it creates an entitled culture. TT appears to be going the same route as Texas and Texas A&M. Remind me; out of all the years that Texas and Texas A&M bought players, how many national championships have they won this century? I hope TT does not earn the reputation “doing less with more”. Too many teams have that moniker.

Do the Dallas Cowboys buy players…

Tech will underachieve like they always do and their oil daddies will get bored after 2 seasons. This is not sustainable.

I see Cougar Fandom like a church and every one of us should donate 10% of our income.

Seriously though all the seriously loaded people I know tend be tight because they don’t like giving money away, they like tax breaks so you will see them making donations but NIL is different.

Isn’t he still paying the old coach! $14 million or something like that

If Guyton blow up at Texas Tech, he will be a free agent next year commanding even more money. The highest bidder will win.

Doesn’t Fertitta have some kinda past association with Texas Tech?

He was a student at Texas Tech. And UH.

He could throw bundles of $100 bills off the back of his yacht and get the same ROI. Like most people, he understands paying college players who can decide to drag up, or move on at any time is a waste of money.

Texas and Ohio State would like a word.

The Cover 3 podcast says it takes an average of 30% more money to get these 4 stars to Lubbock vs Austin or Columbus. So a 1.4 million player for the blue bloods is 2 million for Tech. The rich guys will get sick of that too.

I can’t believe all of these negative Tillman posts. The man has been largely responsible for the position our university finds itself in today. Maybe after donating tens of millions of dollars for football, basketball, and the med school, he thinks someone else should do their share while he is doing his ambassador to Italy bit.

I am grateful for everything he has done for UH and if he never gives another penny to UH, I will still hold him in the same esteem.
