If TCU has done it

…why can’t the University of Houston?

I don’t believe the excuses!

You could say this about any team though

We both got left out after the SWC. Seeing TCU pull ahead of us has been hard to watch. But they are years ahead of us. Why? Mostly the stability they got with Patterson

In the late 90s and early 2000s while UH was counting pennies from under the couch cushions, TCU was investing hundreds of millions. Patterson was the perfect coach too. Similar to Leach where for his own reasons the top dogs (UT/A&M/OU/LSU) never came after him and mid level P5s wouldn’t match what TCU was paying him.

All starts with the Jimmy and the Joe’s up front with OL. Then “D.”

Because their administration didn’t have its head in its butt.

As a private school they were able to fund themselves to buy what they needed to move forward. Then they showcased that progress to energize the alumni base to donate to fill the gaps.
Meanwhile it took us 12-15 years to start to build similar momentum.

Again, because of an inept administration.

UH has actually done it before. I think most people don’t think we can do it next year, but after we get acclimated to the league and continue to improve our facilities (ops center).

I’m not sure who their DC is but they better give him a raise.

UH can certainly be successful in The Big 12.

Recruiting. We are missing on that aspect.

By next August we will have a different roster than what we saw in Shreveport.

TCU got to the big 12 in 2013… so lets revisit this conversation 10 years from now:joy::joy::joy:. What a joke

I don’t agree.

I think the University of Houston has a better chance of recruiting quality talent than say Washington State, Iowa State, or even Kansas in football.

Why? Because it’s Houston. The 4th largest city and a major media market with the best recruits in the country.

If we win, and become a consistent winner. We will recruit better and can genuinely be a contender with the quality of talent we can get now that we’re on a level playing field with our peers.

We can be TCU, and more. Because it’s Houston

Logic is on your side but reality has proven different for decades.

I figure local talent wants to play for coaches that can sell their programs or else they simply want to get away from Houston.

Teams around the country don’t even have to play anywhere near here and still get Houston recruits.

I asked coach Levine about why top teams don’t want to play here simply for recruiting and he hemmed and hawed and couldn’t answer.

It’s two things, winning and conference affiliation. If UH can start to win, be competitive (make conference games, get into the top bowls games then yes. No reason why we can’t achieve success TCU is having this year.

TCU was building big stuff and beating people when we were both g5. They didn’t start when they went in the B12.

Teams don’t want to play here out of conference because they lose a payday for playing on their campus and run the risk of loss. Look at Alabama squeaking out a win at UT this year. They are a juggernaut at home.

If TCU continues with this beat down, it’ll be proof that the Big 12 belongs with the big boys as a “power” conference.

Our champion can go toe to toe with any, and will always be in playoff and Natty contention.
