Seven letters, two words.

PAY WALL!!!

In any event, not too excited to hear this.

Simply creates more “super-commuters” with no connection to campus life.

But someone said they spoke directly with Khator, and she wants UH to be a residential school.

Wow.

So the future is 10K students in Sugar Land, and 5K in Katy?

And SEVEN buildings in Katy? Gosh, the one building they have already butts right up against the Katy Asian Village. Maybe they could expand into the land just east of that though. You can see that empty grassy space in one of the photos from the ad.

Here’s the thing. If we do create these little super-commuter “Mini UHes,” what we should probably do is try to create big tailgates for home football and basketball that are dedicated exclusively to students from those two campuses. This would help ensure that they remain connected to campus life and become lifelong UH sports fans as a result.

I do think that it would be beneficial to give UH’s four year traditional BSN program (which currently operates out of the top floor of the Katy building), its own dedicated building with state of the art facilities. I can certainly see that being a growth area in the future.

You’re a smart guy, I’m sure you can find your way around it or just buy a subscription.

As to a) no, and as to b) NO WAY!!!

BUT…

Thanks to rtcoog for fixing it for tech challenged/cheap people like yours truly!

So, no you’re not a smart guy that can find his way around it. Wow, what an admission!

We Got Him GIF

As I said, I’m a TECH CHALLENGED and CHEAP guy!

Why even have these satellites, can’t they do this remote learning?

I love that we are doing this. Many other top notch universities do the same. Our current campus is basically overgrown. There is very little room left unless we build UP? It also offers the possibility of recruiting more fans in these areas…if we want to.

Why have the physical university at all then?

Obviously there’s demand for these campuses or they would not continue.

I don’t find the current campus overgrown, but that’s my opinion. However we do have a lot more room to grow the campus than people realize just look at how far away the med school is from campus proper, there’s a lot of space in-between. Though the reasons for these satellites has nothing to do with the amount of space on the campus and has everything to do with reaching out to other areas.

I disagree with this perspective

We constantly complain about being a commuter school, and this type of strategy is exactly what keeps us a commuter school

at some point, we have to stop catering to where there is “demand” and start demanding students to come to UH-Main Campus

Kids aren’t going to UT-SA because it’s a “UT” in San Antonio. They’re going to UT-SA because they weren’t accepted into UT-Austin.

UH has to stop catering to the suburbs and start bringing the suburban kids here.

We are largely serving a different kind of student at our satellite campuses.

Non-traditional?

My opinion is the opposite; campus feels very crowded to me now. But that’s
largely based on the way it was when I was a student and how I remembered the
large open park like spaces. The recent master plan summarized it like this …

Relatively few open sites remain for buildings, as surface parking lots have been replaced by buildings and garages

I’m guessing the legacy buildings at the heart of campus are E Cullen, Roy Cullen, and the old Science building. Could Fleming, McIhinney , Heyne be replaced or are they considered part of campus heart ?

Easy solution, build taller buildings.
