Because he’s single handedly doing everything he can to screw us
Looks the refs have been bad. But it looks like TT wanted it more.
Yeah, the rest of the team could have given Sharp and Flemings more help but let us lose because Tech outplayed us not because they screwed us on the calls
Refs were pitiful imo. It’s very easy to go the route of “can’t blame the refs,” but damn that was ugly. And it was a one possession game the final minute even with the bs
The refs ultimately weren’t the reason we lost. But there was some home cooking for sure. We had more than our fair chances to win though. The minutes with Sakho playing rather than Tugs or Cenac made the difference ultimately. Sakho was getting manhandled by Toppin, who got away with too many grabs and bully tactics.
Tech out hustled us. They destroyed our double teams passing to open 3 point shooter.
Good coaching by CM
I don’t disagree, but the refs were also clearly for the home team today. Make no mistake, the refs are a big part of this loss, and you’ve rarely if ever seen me blame the refs before.
There were fouls even ESPN commentators questioned or said were missed.
We definitely had our chances but, man, some of the non-calls on TT players going over the back or bumping our guards while they were driving to the basket could’ve easily put us in the bonus or swung the momentum back in our favor.
The one in the second half where Toppin got the And1 call, he clearly shoved and went over the back of McCarty. Petty, while getting torched by Flemings, got away with what was clearly looked like a foul when he chest bumped Flemmings on a drive to the basket in the last five minutes of the game. That call would’ve fouled Petty out of the game.
As for the rest of the game, even the announcer said it was an uphill battle with both of our big sitting on the bench in foul trouble in the first half. Imagine if Toppin was in foul trouble or fouled out of the game. How would that play in Houston’s favor? How about Petty. He’s much like Sharp as a shooter. Sharp got called for a phantom foul late in the game but Petty chest bumped Flemings and nothing.
I know it’s easy to nitpick but these types of calls and non-calls can have a huge impact on the game. During one stretch I think we had 3 fouls called during one possession. Grr…
Agreed. I would rather them not call soft contact at all but they didn’t call it on them as much as they did on us. Especially on rebounding. They got away with a ton. It is also on us to sell the contact more
With that said, we usually are the bullies and Sakho got bullied. Honestly, his minutes made the difference in the game. He couldn’t do squat.
This
I just watched the press conference. Sampson said TT had 22 points off of second chance opportunities around the basket. That was essentially the difference in the game. That stat is a result of JoJo and Cenac sitting on the bench in foul trouble.
The fouls called on Tugler told me all I needed to know to see how this game was going to end. The obvious shove in the back by tt foul and the one where Toppin spun into him were the best calls money can buy.
I leave taking the high road and not commenting on officiating to the coaches. As a fan, I have to call it as I see it. The refs hosed us yesterday and we still had an opportunity to win the game.
Cenac is learning how to play Cougar basketball. He is getting tougher every game.
We need Sakho to be more physical because he was getting bullied on rebounds.
We don’t need to put ourselves in a situation where the officials can make a call that affects the outcome. We will be ok!
Scoring and shot charts didn’t look very good in the end with Cenac and Tug taking a combined two shots.
That said, we went with the hot hand with Flemings and Tech had no answer so you naturally keep giving him the ball.
Tugler isn’t a scorer but we really need to get Cenac involved in the offense. I really think he could be good in isolation near the basket, but after those two quick fouls he was non existent in the offense.
I am also surprised Harwell and McCarty didn’t get more scoring opportunities off the bench.
You could tell Flem was totally exhausted at the end.
In the end, and yes there was some shady calls by the refs, but it was lack of intensity on the boards that beat us yesterday. I know our two key players were in foul trouble, but frankly we need Sahko and the the two freshmen on the bench to pick it up when on the court.
Sure wish McFarland was ready to play!
And one other thing, I am shocked at this point that Lath didn’t portal out last year. Just me, but I think he portals this year so he can get on the court and play…and I really hate to say this, I put Mercy in the same boat if he doesn’t get much playing time the rest of this year…
Amazing that Toppin only had two called personal fouls. That said it all to me about the refs.
Could we have played better? Absolutely. But to ignore the obvious screw job by those refs is to be wilfully ignorant. Had the game been called correctly, we run away with it, no question about it. Tech played well, but even with all of our mistakes, they were NOT the better team.
But we didn’t put ourselves in that situation. That game was decided for us about halfway into the 1st half.
Refs were MUCH worse in Tennessee game.
Tech is good. They got a couple home court calls and that’s normal. Except for when we play at home.
