Interestingly enough, Miami wasn’t even the highest bidder
$9.5 million seems to be a ridiculous amount of money. There is no way his image and likeness will generate $9.5 million in revenue.
So this just buying players.Which ok, whatever, but how can one college player be so good as to to be worth $9.5 million if you are acquiring talent.
What does this booster get from an investment of this magnitude?
I’m sure hes not getting the entire 9.5 million up front.
Money is getting out hand. So much money going around. 9 million is more than most NFL players will make. Is this money guaranteed? With that kind of money I’d like to think they earned it. Instead it looks like rich guys just like to win a bidding war
I wonder how hard it will be for a HC to bench one of these big money kids if he’s not performing. I guess it depends on the booster and his amount of influence.
Seems like it could be a huge distraction to the team. I bet a school in Austin has been dealing with this for many years.
It’s amazing to me the amount of money rich people will give away for their alma mater to win games.
There is no doubt it is rich guys buying talent. But if there is no monetary return, that seems like a lot of money for just the ego satisfaction of your college team winning.
I strongly believe that in places like Alabama there are state contracts that are influenced by how much you give to the program. But in Miami what can you possibly be getting?
Creating facilities, supporting scholarships, things that have a lasting important impact makes sense but throwing out millions on a player that might transfer is pretty silly to me.
If that’s the going rate for a 4* I bet Arch Manning is getting a 1st round NFL rookie contract level money.
Just a businessman throwing his crotch on the table. Stupid NcAA just looks stupid. No prep. Nothing.
It’s new … well, the above the table part of these payments. A few kids not panning out at the collegiate level will hopefully help self-regulate the market. I think everyone saw this coming down the road but it really escalated much faster than I thought.
NCAA had a chance to prevent all this but in their arrogance they refused to head trouble off at the pass. Reap what you sow, “impotence” in this case
I don’t think the NCAA ever had a chance to prevent this once the courts got involved !!
Only thing about this NIL stuff , is vast majority of players are never going to get paid, just the star athletes, mostly. It’s a inequitable system. It is what it is. Also your star QB or whatever, is one resentful player away from getting injured, left tackle decides to take few plays off because he’s jealous, he’s not getting paid.
Miami use to be all about money laundering and now they can get back into it legally.
Assuming these players get the money up front, I’m waiting for the first player to go into the transfer portal seeking a better deal after one year.
Now you have lawyers speaking on behalf of a kid - ridiculous
Then why would a kid even want to make his deal known? He’s a walking target. A kid like that will need a security team and off campus housing and then folks can lie about deals just to drive the price up
This reminds me of one thing
That’s in the rules.
