One of our brethren in another post stated that it was delusional to believe that we stood a chance to upset the sooners in Norman … and this was before the Hurts announcement …
Add to that the Army massacre on nat’l TV and NO ONE in America or Trondheim Norway believes our coogs will now survive the first quarter … much less the rest of the game …
I also suspect with the Jalen transfer that all the sooner nation … sooner team …and sooner coaches are already chalking up the UH game with a easy checkmark in the win column … after all
They beat the black knights … barely … but we never made it out the starting gate …
Sooo even though we have a new coaching staff … save Clements … for the sooners it will be the same ole team that showed up in Ft. Worth … will show up in Norman ready to roll over and play dead … again
Lambs to the slaughter … so we might as well throw in the towel eight months early … pack our duds and not even make the trip up I-45 I-35 …
I don’t know about never. Or at least not in comparison to an AAC or MWC team with some serious OOC wins like we had in 2016 and look to have a chance to pick up next year (though of course thinking we’ll go undefeated next year is pretty ludicrous). UNC was ranked 10th in the playoff rankings when they were 10-1 heading into the ACC championship game with Clemson in 2015, behind several two loss teams. Their OOC was trash that year, the ACC Coastal was down and they managed to not play any of the good ACC teams from the other division. A close win over Clemson would have given them a good boost for sure, but I don’t know about 6 spots. It would have been weird to evaluate Clemson vs. UNC since Clemson would have a drastically better resume, but a head to head loss to a team with the same record and also UNC would have won the conference.
If you look at the three undefeated G5s in the playoff era, one was a MAC team whose best OOC win was a 7 win Northwestern team. UCF’s best OOC win this year was a 7 win Pitt team. Their best OOC win last year was probably a 4 win Maryland team (of course they unfortunately had their game with GT cancelled).
So far no one has come close to our 2016 or (presumably) 2019 schedule. I think it’s very premature to say that literally no OOC would give a G5 a shot.
Fair enough. I’ve just found that life is more enjoyable if you set your expectations low and then are pleasantly surprised. Of course, if we knock off OU and Wazzu and are looking at a 9-0 record heading into the Memphis game, I’m sure my hopes will be elevated once again.
The way the season went with an awful defense and awful loss to Army, most people don’t see us beating the playoff caliber OU team.
Of course you can say now we have P5 coaches and getting better recruits but realistically, coaches/players may take awhile to gel and those better recruits may not become starters as a freshman.
I believe UH fans hope the obvious doesn’t happen but if OU does beat us, that loss can be forgiven if it’s not like the Army game.
I just want to be competitive. Anything can happen in a game if you can keep it somewhat close. With all our offensive firepower coming back, we should be able to score some points. Get some timely stops and turnovers, anything can happen. But if we lose a competitive game in Norman, no one should be super upset about that.
How are we sure about being healthy. Many injuries happen in August during 4-5 weeks of practice b4 first game just part of the Sport. Can only hope for the best but no guarantees for sure!!
Thanks Ron. That’s what gets me in trouble on here sometimes bec I look at everything in very realistic way and tend to respond to crazy talk instead of letting it go as just that…CRAZY TALK! I’m getting better to let things go w.o responding. OH btw Case Keenum is going to be UH OC in 2019 , that’s just one ex. #GoCoogs
