Jarace Walker, NBA thread

I figure we are going to talk a lot about this guy and his journey to the NBA and through the NBA. Guy is good.

One thing that has been frustrating me is the popularity of saying things like this, from the article:
“Head coach Kelvin Sampson has turned Houston into a modern college basketball powerhouse, but he’s never had an NBA prospect like Jerace (sic) Walker before.”

Just not true. For example, Eric Gordon 2007

Armon Basset 2006

He is an amazing talent with a body that was crafted on Mount Olympus but he isn’t our best player. He is probably our 3rd best player right now.

If we could set the way back machine to 1974 and players had to stay 4 years in college, he would win 2 maybe 3 national player of the year awards due to Sampson’s tutoring.

He will be one and done based on his body. His game needs work.

It’s not worded super clear, but I think that’s saying he’s never had an NBA prospect like Walker at Houston, which is true. Grimes is the closest he’s had, but even he wasn’t nearly the prospect Walker is.

He is raw but super talented for sure, he didn’t look good last night, definitely has things to work on, I agree not our best player right now but let’s see at the end of the year

Jarace played like a freshman last night. He was 0-4 from the field, finished with two free throws, three rebounds and two turnovers to go along with his two early that got him on the bench early.
I watched him on the bench and he cheered for his teammates and liked it when Sasser and Mark took over the game.
I was expecting the 5 star freshman to pout on the bench at least a little, but this kid was the ultimate teammate and will have a lot more good games than games like this in the future

I’m sure CKS was abundantly clear what his expectations would be of Walker and there’s no chance Walker would have come here if he didn’t want that level of accountability. No matter what level of competition you play against in high school and AAU, it’s not the same as college. It’s only a matter of time before he really catches up to the speed of the game and starts dominating. There’s a reason CKS has him starting at the 4 as a true freshman, and I can guarantee it’s not to protect his ego.

We have the luxury of letting him have good games and bad games. It’s a great spot for him

Eric Gordon was the #1 recruit coming out of high school. He averaged 20 pts as a Freshman at Indiana, was named 3rd Team All American and declared for the draft after his lone season. He was drafted #7 overall.

EG was clearly a legit NBA prospect, the writer is likely just too young or lazy to realize it.

He picked up a couple of quick fouls too. Good to hear he has still “into” the game. That’s a good sign.

We better win the whole thing this year because he is gone after this year.

Way too early to make such assumptions…have you noticed the kids we have coming in?
I’m thinking we are going to be in this dog fight as long as Coach is here.

Pretty sure they meant just at Houston.

Quentin Grimes wasn’t a sure NBA prospect until his last season at UH.

Grimes finally learned to play defense and rebound. He should have given his signing bonus to CKS and his staff.

Worry about THIS year . . . . .

Like I said earlier, I think the writer was saying Sampson hasn’t had a player like that at Houston. EG didn’t play for Houston.

I’m wondering if it is the best move for some of these freshman like Jarace to go to the nba this year
With so many options in front of them it will be hard to be in the top ten
In a year more Jarace could be a potential No 1 which carry’s a lot more mula
Guess time will tell

ESPN put out their top 100. We have JW at 14, MS at 27 and TA at 47.

SI has Jarace at 5 Sasser at 26.
