  • ESPN reported that Art Briles would interview for job
  • 30 minutes later, UH sent out statement had expressed interest, but after talks between UH leadership, Briles was not a candidate
  • Tillman was reported to want the interview; not true, all leadership was unanimous in not wanting to interview Briles
  • Candidates that will interview this week: Les Miles, Lane Kiffin, Lincoln Riley, Major Applewhite, and Todd Orlando
  • Nothing on PJ Fleck, Neal Brown, or Blake Anderson
  • JD’s guess as the leaders: Les Miles and Todd Orlando
  • Major Applewhite has a lot of support in the locker room, but so does Todd Orlando
  • Guesses interviews will begin Monday or Tuesday (reported that Kiffin will interview Sunday)
  • Briles was not a road that the University could go down right now
  • Kiffin: Alabama’s offense averaging 40 PPG this year.
  • Riley: Rhodes award winner last year, big-time assistant route like Tom Herman
  • Miles: 12 successful seasons at LSU, .770 winning %, won national championship, took another team to the championship game

And - he is old enough that he just might stay with us for the rest of his career, especially if he will agree to a very large buy-out!

Couple that with a great OC (John Jenkins, maybe?), and keep Orlando as DC (with a good raise in pay).

What’s not to like?

He may be the only candidate listed other than Orlando and Major that might consider a large Buy Out – something UH officials seem interested in to ensure no more 2-and-done coaches. Riley and Kiffin probably can get other deals without the huge buy out from schools that have not been burned like UH.

Now that Briles has been eliminated, I am good with any of the candidates that JD has outlined.
