It seems to me that no one truly delivers the Houston market…….there are so many players.
This is all true.
He is not a friend of UH. Period. Don’t read the roach!
You’ve got that right! The only two writers that the Chron has had that weren’t completely anti-UH were Richard Justice and Steve Campbell. Unfortunately, they weren’t anti-UH to the Chron’s liking and they were too good of a writer so the Chron got rid of them! Maybe salary was the main reason they were let go, I’m not sure. Those were the only two writers they got that I used to like reading their stuff. Ironically, both of those guys were also UT grads, but I don’t care about that! I respect people that respect others and are unbiased in their attitude and character. There were a couple of writers who were Coogs alumni who were also pretty good writers in their own right, but they had smaller roles than these two writers.
I believe once we win consistently there will be more and more people coming to our games. Like others have said, people in Houston love a winner and they tend to only support a team that wins consistently. Look how things have changed for the Astros. They used to be laughed at and being called the “LastStros,” but things have completely changed for them since they have won World Series titles and stay competitive every year.
In my opinion, the Chron has gotten a bit better, but much of that is due to both basketball and the B12. Duarte is not nearly as snide as he was in his early days of coverage. In fact, he almost seems to like his position now.
It will be interesting to see who replaces Brian Smith, who is moving to England. Would love to see Chris Baldwin get the job, he does a great job for PaperCity magazine.
My beef is mainly with js.
Duarte seems to be the same guy he always was, just older. He’s too tired to keep up with the snide-ness.
It seems that the college Soloman attended is a well guarded secret. Searches have revealed he went to Mabel Wesley elementary and Wheatly HS, but his Chronicle Bio only refers to him as “A math genius and engineering major in college, he’s still working on this writing thing.”
Come on guys, the school year isn’t based on the calendar year, so everyone could be right about when we’ll get the full share.
Jerome didn’t graduate from college. That’s why you can’t find it.
I can’t find where he attended either. According to Chronical, he was an engineering major. I just want to know where he went because he may have a grudge if it was UH and a bias if it wasn’t.
I believe he has a daughter at UH now, so that probably helps us.
I don’t particularly care where or if he went to college. I have seen too much in my life to know that doesn’t always say much about someone’s ability. I mean, Zuckerberg and Gates dropped out of Harvard, and Jack Dorsey dropped out Missouri - Rolla (their designated STEM university). Jobs went Williams or some other liberal arts college (not a dis, just making a point).
The real question is whether he is a good writer. Based on what I have read, I would say he is above average, but he is no Bill Rhoden or Mickey Herskowitz. Probably at Richard Justice level.
Richard Justice may be more favorable towards UH these days but I remember back in the day when it was the complete opposite.
Did you see my post about why I wanted to know? It’s 2 posts up.
I’d say well below average writer. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.
He was indisputably an a## towards UH.
Yes I did, why?
Mickey was the best and a UH grad to boot!
Dale was pretty bad and he was an alum.
