“How about Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech? Would he have ever stayed at Texas Tech?" Fisher said. "Somebody would have came and got him. You know what I’m saying? And what’s happening, your haves are out there saying, ‘OK, I need a corner and I need a tackle and I need a running back.’ And they’re going to these four-year schools and just selecting, and those guys are really becoming glorified junior colleges, and it’s a shame. I mean great college football programs that have won big in the past and have had tremendously great players. But that what’s changed.”
He ain’t wrong.
Wow, if Mahomes had left before his junior season Tech would’ve missed out on their magical 5-7 run. Talk about rewriting the history books!
“Non-P2” is underselling it. There are about a dozen schools, tops, that can afford to compete for titles in the NIL era; Indiana and Northwestern and Mississippi State aren’t really in any different of a position than UH or Georgia Tech or NC State.
If only Jimbo was P2… the damage he could have done
Judging by Jimbo Fisher’s buyout, I’d argue that P2 schools have become glorified charities
That’s the reality in football. They say P-this and P-that because they don’t want to offend people in the SEC.
The guys in the video pretty much says Jimbo doesn’t know what he’s talking about and should just stfu.
The NFL just got about 30 AAA minor league teams (P2), another 30 or so AA minor league teams (the rest of the p5), and 70 A minor league teams (the rest of D1).
They did it without spending a dime.
Can’t wait for the union and the strike and lockouts that will happen.
This is really the beginning of the end of college athletics.
I think the coup de gras is the schools paying the players (non NIL). Once they do that they become employees and are subject to all the state employment laws for state employees. That means posting for positions, procedures for firing have to be followed.
It is going to be a mess.
remember that time Jimbo lost to a G5 school, in a NY6 Bowl?
They’ll never be able to stop Dalvin Cook.
But then he would’ve plucked Ed Oliver the next year. Wait Ed wasn’t on the team that beat FSU.
That is not as bad as losing to App State in 2022 after pulling in the #1 recruiting class.
But he was on the team that beat OU and Louisville.
Ed Oliver was honestly a lucky grab for UH. It required many different factors.
- From the Houston Area
- Ed’s brother was already at UH
- Ed’s high school coach was hired as DL coach
- UH was already having momentum
- Perfect schedule in 2016 to get national recognition
Ed goes to LSU even if one of those factors is missing
Agreed. We’re just here to develop players for other teams while receiving no compensation.
- UH students and administrators compromised on athletics spending. UH student fees will subsidize both athletics and new mental health resources next year, in what administrators called a “rare win-win” after students objected to President Renu Khator’s move to use a high percentage of student fees for athletics.
Here is how we can get another, tons of Ed Oliver.
Go ahead Kim:
For the longest time the highest bidder got the best players. USC, Bama and all blue bloods did it. Nobody wants to admit it but money talks everything else walks. We have to have big donors willing to spend cash, beaucoup cash to get us a National Championship squad. You mix with HCWF and the big trophy is ours. NIL is synonymous with:
Which donor, donors are willing to bankroll a National Championship team? This is what it has always been about. Ask Cam Newton and his parents about it.
He IS wrong, and he’s proven that anything he says isnt worth paying attention to…Aggie could spend a billion and STILL be the losers they are…
Jimbo benefited from A&M overspending and underperforming.
He should be the last person to talk about doing more with less.
