Let’s stack them in a trenchcoat near the basket. We’ll win every game, I’m sure of it.
CKS told me years ago he identifies his positions as a point guard, two “wings” that are interchangeable and two “bigs.” He’d prefer one big to be able to shoot to spread the floor. So there is no real difference between a small forward and a shooting guard or a power forward and a center. Defensively, anybody who gets the ball inside we double hard anyway.
I would compare Tugler to a budding Dennis Rodman. He can rebound, take it coast to coast on the break finishing at the rim or assisting (he’s a solid passer). Needs to work on his jumper and free throws obviously, but no true freshman is going to come in polished offensively. He’ll dive for loose balls and play like a mad man on defense. Quick feet for a guy his size so he’ll be able to switch off on the perimeter. He’s made for our culture.
I have, the kid is real. He’s strong, athletic, quick with great court sense. He plays extremely well away from the ball. His defensive intensity impressed me the most. He should do very well in Coaches system.
EATEMUP
Bo also came here from JUCO so he was mature and ready to go. He was a great shot blocker and tough on the boards and made a few NBA dollar bills.
Way too early to compare but JoJo has a major upside
Dunn, TA, McFarland, Roberts all got long arms. It should be really fun
Yeah….we have many posters that either don’t know or have forgotten the big is gonna get doubled from both sides.
The biggest test for a UH defense is a 5 that has good vision and can pass the ball….kick out to perimeter guys that can knock it down….
The Kofi Cockburn’s of the world don’t scare me.
Shout out to San Antonio for Bo.
Javier, too!
When you measure with shoes on, you don’t get an exact comparison because all shoes don’t have the exact same sole thickness. You do get the real measurement in socks which gives you an exact comparison.
Guys, at the end of the day will be be able to hold his own at the 4? Like any other incoming freshman, we will see. CKS saw something in him that would benefit our team. It’s not going to be his head physically playing defense. His hands are where they need to be.
Whoa! There are some players I never compare anyone with. Dennis Rodman is one of them. They are once in a lifetime players.
Even a guard swiping the ball from the ball side before a post can even make a move is good.
It would indeed need to be a very skilled big man to do us dirty.
Uconn had two of those ![]()
FAU… Never mind i digress.
This is on coach and ill leave it at that.
I’m never worried about defense.
Now. I think there can be some legit worries about J’Wan’s ability to impact a game offensively against a big that is bigger than he is.
But when we have creators at every other position on the court, it’s going to be tough for defenses to stay in front and key in on a guy.
I think J’Wan will get more easy baskets this season than he did last. And if he stretches his game out to the mid range. While also working on going over his left shoulder. Watch out.
And then we keep the same versatility on defense. Where we can switch everything and feel okay.
Closing out a defensive possession with a rebound may still be a concern. But every team in the country has concerns.
Coach would probably play matchups against a handful of teams.
You do realize Baylor had some great actual big guys and didn’t rely on Vital to hold down the post, right?
Lol. Stop.
Baylor won the natty because they had Jared Butler, Davion Mitchell, Macio Teague, Adam Flagler, and Matthew Mayer.
Baylor did not have “great” big guys.
Hell, J’Wan had the same amount of ppg this season as Tchatchoua and Flamba, combined.
Y’all are in here really bashing guys for no reason.
J’Wan just did 10 and 8 this season. At 61% from the floor. A 25 PER.
Oh. Let’s not forget the 1 to 2 blocks per game he will give you. And another steal or two. And another assist or 2.
And y’all don’t even want to give him the offseason before putting him on the bench.
Yuck.
There bigs were just serviceable. They knew the defensive system well and were tough.
