Nope. People telling me Sumlin called them about coming back.
He might realize Arizona isn’t that good of a job.
This is why Kliff talking about how fond he was of Houston is the way to go even if a coach feels he will never want to return. Taking a cheap shot at UH after going to A&M should put Summie way down on the list of HC candidates that excellence on the field will have to overcome.
But the sunsets are priceless…
I want nothing more than Holgerson to be successful if he comes here. But his stats seem pretty similar to Applewhite. He will face the same depth/recruiting and defensive challenges here. Hopefully these concerns are addressed.
The lack of enthusiasm for the bald drinker is amazing here.
interesting take by three WV “media” folks
As with Applewhite and others, let’s see how he does. We have had successful UH coaches that were mediocre at times at P5 programs so comparing records is not always a good predictor. Seems like the train is leaving the station and I will need to get on like I did when we left Orlando at the station platform last time.
At least he does not have to hold together a signing class before NSD…he just has to sell those committed to stick it out.
My concern is the Holgorsen price tag and the bucket of $ for his staff.
But please don’t interpret that as a lack of enthusiasm. I thought Holgorsen to UH was wishful thinking.
I actually sort of figured we might get him again, but when he passed on the UCF job I figured he was setting his bar at the P5. But maybe not.
When did he pass on the UCF job ?
He was UCF’s first choice to replace Frost.
I hadn’t thought about it this way but, you make a good point. I’d love to have a season like we had under those coaches who had great careers here then left. I’d take a 13-1 season like Herman or Sumlin had before their mediocre-to-above-average seasons in the P5. Can Holgorsen turn his mediocre-to-above-average P5 career into an outstanding job at UH?
Since Pardee the one component always accompanying a successful UH coach is a world-class QB.
Pardee - Ware
Briles - Kolb
Sumlin - Case
Herman - Ward
If Dana gets his man the sky is the limit. And our receivers will not be dropping passes.
Maybe he knew Apple Boy would be a bust and really wanted to come to UH !!!
I posted the following in another thread:
Since leaving UH as head coach:
Overall / Conf / Bowls
65-37 / 39-30 / 3-3 Art Briles
56-33 / 29-28 / 3-2 Kevin Sumlin
16-10 / 12-6 / 1-0 Tom Herman (Bowl record pending a Sugary beat down this season)
In eight seasons at WVU:
61-41 / 38-32 / 2-5 Dana Holgorsen
My perspective is that coaches may be successful at a different level at UH / in Houston than other locations. I am not pro-Dana or anti-Dana but I will wait to see how he holds this team together if he is hired and what kind of product he can put on the field
He has King and adding him to that list means that only Briles brought in “his” winning QB…interesting, I guess !!!
That’s true. Briles was a helluva talent evaluator at that position. I think that was what I was most looking forward to with Kendal…having his father tell him which kids to go after.
