Good for Kansas
Damn…best i can do is like, $500. My sugar bby wont get her monthly allowance, but priorities come first
Congratulations to Kansas! I read the article and what intrigued me was this portion:
“The donation includes $75 million aimed at funding the next phase of the Gateway District and renovations to David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, while the remainder is expected to provide long-term support for Kansas athletics programs.”
Read about the Gateway District with your UH hat on:
“The Gateway District project includes new student housing, a hotel, expanded retail and restaurant space, an outdoor plaza and additional parking. Phase 2 of the project, which aims to finish the south and east sides of the football stadium and develop the surrounding mixed-use district…”
The Gateway District is funded by public and private money. Imagine creating a Gateway-like District surrounding UH. I then came back down to earth, realizing UH does not own the surrounding land to build this and getting public funding would be an uphill climb. If you could build this, it would increase student enrollment, student housing and eventually, alumni support.
Great win for KU. Good for the B12 brand.
The goal at one time was to buy up the land from the stadium to I45. This would be the perfect place.
What would be best for both schools would be to develop all of the land between UH and TSU, but that would definitely cause a great re-location problem.
Sounds like cy-town or whatever isu calls it
I’ve been waiting a long time for them to do this. Haven’t heard anything to make me think anything is changing anytime soon.
Those towns work with the city and understand the importance -

Disappointing that the idea of having a UH “Entertainment District” is really a non-starter in Houston. With a metropolitan city the size of Houston, and all the competing projects for public funding, I can’t imagine using public funds to build a UH Entertainment District. Even including TSU to expand the appeal and potential minority funding, seems like a short term solution with disagreements down the road. An Entertainment District near UH would cost $100s of millions of dollars and experience a lull during the summer months.
I like to think I am a dreamer but this idea is not viable.
KSate has something similar called Aggie Land. It is hopping on game days, but plenty of other shops to maintain year round, kind of like the Village with more bars and restaurants. Like most other small college towns the population triples on game weekends.
I think Aggieville is part of the broader Manhattan downtown. I could be wrong because I’m not from there. But that place has been there forever.
UH is majority minority - TSU opens the door to a certain demographic
Here is the UH demographic breakdown. I don’t understand what TSU has to do with it.
Race/Ethnicity | Number |
---|---|
Hispanic | 15,639 |
White | 10,831 |
Asian | 10,129 |
Black or African American | 4,811 |
International | 3,273 |
Multi-Ethnic | 1,410 |
Unknown | 912 |
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander | 26 |
he said it opens for potential minority funding - UH is already minority - i mentioned that TSU helps penetrate the african american side of it
Since there is no majority ethnic group, should all UH students be considered in the minority?
My comment relates to funding for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). TSU is a designated HBCU and UH is not.
