Thanks for posting.
Great interview, I really like Rich Eisen and watch him often.
CKS is the best coach interview out there, hands down.
I saw a tweet today that UH fans should be worried about all this praising of Coach Sampson. He will be getting offers from other big-time programs. I’m not too worried because he stated in a post-game interview not too long ago this was his last stop.
Agreed. I do wonder if Quanas (sorry if I misspelled) or Kellen might get poached this year.
More power to them if they do. They deserve it.
Isn’t Kellen head-coach-in-waiting? I guess he could still leave for the right offer. Good for him if he does.
Agreed. I just mean that is the news I would pay attention to.
Dude, you cant steal our joy! We are winning. We’re having fun. More power to anyone that gets a great opportunity.
Go Coogs!
Only concern I’d have at all would be something in North Carolina and even if he left for a job in NC or somewhere else, we have so much house money with Kelvin’s tenure here and would be in such a drastically better place than when he took the job that if he left I’d just wish him well.
Aint happening.
Tilman Fertita. And Rhenu Khator. Those relationships are why he stays
Plus he embraces the underdog role at UH.
The recruiting base of Houston, Dallas, Austin, some great players in driving distance.
The situations with Kellen and Lauren on staff. Its a great situation
Hes staying put.
This is a dumb argument to get into but he’s from North Carolina and nearly the entirety of his family and his tribe is up there. I believe he spends a lot of time up there in the offseason. I’m sure he could take Kellen and Lauren with him or Kellen may get a shot at a gig he wants before that. If NC State opened up and wanted him it’s not inconceivable he’d think about it.
I wouldn’t expect him to leave under those circumstances but to act like it’s a zero chance is naive. he considered leaving to coach the Magic and seemed like he was at least sort of thinking about Arkansas.
I think he’d also consider leaving for the right NBA gig based on a lot of things he has said, but I doubt the right NBA gig will want him.
To add, this past offseason in football the head coaches at Notre Dame and OU got poached by other college programs. I don’t see Kelvin leaving for another coaching job but it’s not inconceivable.
Remember he is 66 which might get him overlooked for anyone hoping for a long term coach.
He said himself, “I’ve learned not to mess with happy. And I’m happy.”
Have a statue built on Cullen or go try to build another program… Stay on Cullen for the win.
Quit it. This is not your grandfather’s University of Houston Cougars (and yes I am a grandfather so I know). We are a DESTINATION school now. Coaches come here to win championships and then retire (like the Duke BB coach).
Coach is our coach k. I seriously doubt anyone could come up with a better offer than the Coogs. He’d also be on a leash to bring 5 star talent and not his own guys. They’d also would have to place Lauren and Kellen
I don’t think you build a national powerhouse from scratch, construct a team of recruits, have your entire family employed by the university just to quit and start over somewhere else before you retire in four or five years.
I think this decision was made during the “Arky Malarkey” and its a final decision.
If fan support was low. If we were getting beaten in the 1st round of the tournament.
Im sure those thoughts go thru a coachs head. To leave. Youve peaked. Time to go.
But hes accomplishing big things at UH. Hes building a hall of fame resume here. About to reach win 700.
At OU, he reached the Sweet 16 (3) times in 10 seasons.
At Houston, hes reached the Sweet 16 (3) times in 8 seasons.
