Kliavkoff Welcomes Pac 12 Expansion Possibilities

We have seen companies that merge and one fails to exist. I think of US Airways (USAIR) and American Airlines (AA). AA was in trouble financially and was essentially got taken over by USAIR. But The USAIR name went away and the AA name continues.

I can see the Big XII - 4 and AAC having some kind of marriage. Will one absorb the other or will a new entity exist where there are some schools left out from both conferences in the new world order. Which name gets retired? If I live in Waco, New Orleans, Morgantown, Tulsa, Ames, IA, Greenville, Manhattan, KS, I’m very worried.

Every scenario is on the table.

You are correct. My bad! forgot about Navy in basketball.

I cannot find a link but The Seattle Newspaper just echoed what so many have already said about expansion:

The PAC 12 will not expand just to get in on the Band Wagon.

Schools must meet their Academic standards to be considered.

Schools must bring a ton of new $money to be spread around to the existing 12 members. No cut in existing cash receipts at all.

No remaining Big 12 team makes the cut. None.

I, again, predict that they do not expand. Instead they will seek scheduling partners to increase interest and thus ticket sales.

The Big 10 becomes their scheduling partner. An expansion of their Rose Bowl agreement. And that, alone, could trigger a bigger TV payout.

I agree. I think they announce a scheduling partnership with the BIG or something with some tech companies to get more $ somehow. Honestly, UH has to be at the very top of the list of what they would want from an expansion college and I don’t think we would probably expand the pie for them. I think they hold firm. IF they expand it has to be to try to make some kind of play into Texas with a combination of UH, TT, etc… AND/OR get KU (basketall - the only true blue blood out there).

So it seems like (at least for now) the BIG/PAC/ACC are standing pat.

Now the little XII is probably going to invite some combination (2-8) of BYU and the top AAC/MWC teams. We will see.

The Seattle newspaper does not talk for the PAC12 NEW commissioner. Tha PAC12 needs to generate new ways of income. That is a given. Are they going to stand still? The Seattle newspaper, you, I or anybody not pervy to secret conversations is in the know.
We just have to seat, stand, quietly and wait where the chips fall.

The criteria mentioned is real.

Neither UH nor any Big12 remainder is going to set off their cash registers.

The PAC12 will generate new $money but not new members,

You are making an assumption. We do not know whom their new Commissioner is talking to or who their new media partner will be. Nobody on Coogfans thought that the utau pimp would move from his neighborhood to a new one. We all thought he was pimping enough cash and here is pimping the SEC now.

This makes sense but who knows, The PAC12 seems to be a different bird. Their world definitely does not revolve completely around football like the SEC. The PAC12 , to me, just seems stagnant., not to mention the 9/10PM kickoffs flat out stink IMO. Schedule Partners seems perfect fit for them. Still they’re in better shape the B12.

I’d love ACC but Miss Cleo told me she sees B12…whatever get UH more $$$, full steam ahead

When Baylor entered the B12 and did not win a game for 6 years, were they worth it? What did they add? A roadie to Waco?

Different time…30 years ago is ancient times for this stuff.

Might as well be talking about 30 years ago computers.

Maybe they are. People are into some strange stuff these days. Especially in Seattle.

I meant NOT in the know.

Add 2 Tx schools (UH and ?) and have a game in Texas every year.

" unlike other conferences, the Big Ten can’t just take the top programs available.

That likely takes schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and the remaining Texas schools in the Big 12 off the expansion board…

the Big Ten presidents are insistent that any schools added to the conference be elite academic institutions that increase the overall stature of the conference as a whole, not just in athletics…

This means the Big Ten expansion situation isn’t overly complicated. There are only six schools that make sense for the Big Ten to expand and add to its conference:"

Watched many of those games. There are several rivalries more fun than that one to watch.

The population of the country is shifting to the Southeast. The big markets and talented recruits are also in that area. The Pac needs to realize they have not made the playoffs in 5 years. While other conferences are getting stronger, the PAC seems to be getting weaker.

The Pac 12 is the next conference to go under unless they do something.

I don’t think the PAC is going under. There’s still a huge market for college football on the west coast. And since they don’t care about the rest of the country there’s no one to replace the PAC.
